I remember a Long time ago, in a GoG [Galaxy?] far far away... You used to be able to give away games from you library to a friend. I don't see such an option now... Is that still possible?
Hmm?

Other than sharing the installer i'm not sure how you'd share a game. Well... other than physically handing a CD, or a USB drive, or a torrent...

I don't recall GoG ever doing that.

I DO recall steam doing that, with a share program...

That was never a thing, I'm not sure what you're remembering. Perhaps you're thinking of Steam's family sharing?

You could never do what you seem to be describing. You can send/email gift codes to a friend of course, but never give away games directly from your own personal library.
you can download installers and give a friend them to install on their own system.

its drm free and still works. won't be able to attach the game to galaxy if they do not have it in their account.

it is also against the policy of the shop. but hey, occasional share of the game, if accompanied by good word towards gog and how to get other games correctly, probably is no harm.
Ya'll are completely misunderstanding me. There was an option once upon a time, where you could send a game from your library, to a community member who you have marked as a friend. The game would, thus, disappear from your library, and appear in theirs.

Also, if I'm remembering right, you used to be able to buy a game as a gift to someone, and not have it go into your library, but your friend's.

You also used to be able to see a member list, and private message people... but I don't see any of these options anymore.

I don't remember that at all. Does not seem right as what stopping you from just installing the game and then having transfer the game to your friends library.

I think support might do this manually. Game supposed to be a gift but went to your own library.

Also, if I'm remembering right, you used to be able to buy a game as a gift to someone, and not have it go into your library, but your friend's.
You can send them via email. I don't recall any other gifting either. you mark the game as gift in shop and then they will receive a link which they can redeem. the game will appear in their library.

You also used to be able to see a member list, and private message people... but I don't see any of these options anymore.
you still can do that. maybe it changed a little. result of spam?
but if you go to chat and type username's directly it will allow you to message them. it has to be exact as you can't see all members of the forum.

edit:
but if you want to receive chat messages from non friends you have to enable it in your privacy section. default is that only friends can msg you.
initially i think everyone could message everyone.

Probably you have mistaken present days against the future, it's a normal thing. You need to wait a few years for this option to be available again for the first time.

Depends if you've downloaded that game before or not, in the latter case you can message GoG Support and they could turn your game in your library into a gift code. The other options you talked about are still there but slightly different/changed, also change your chat settings so random people can private message you :)

No... I don't think they were. GOG never had any option to give away games that were already part of your library. People were suggesting things like Steam family sharing simply because the thing you described never existed here.

I don't remember that ever being a thing. But then again I've only been here since the beginning of 2014.

You're not entirely insane.

There is a "gift this game" option at checkout, but that's as far as it goes.
