No it most definitely isn't, for the same reason chess isn't a sport, i.e. there is little physical activity involved.

If you consider Starcraft a sport, then every competitive activity is one too, including exams and those silly TV quiz games. Since that would be absurd, it stands to reason that "e-sports" don't have anything to do with actual sport.
Yes,it's a sport exercising an arse'ole...
What's next,Martians landing?:-)
I've skipped the video because I'm lazy, but no, for me competitive gaming isn't a sport.
It's just a generic competition like many others that don't require big physical skills.

I got tendonitis to my hands from gaming, however... XD

tinyE: Yeah....I'm an athlete!

Shit, I couldn't pass the 'Jerry's Kids' physical!

amok: do only athletes participate in sports?
Oh yeah.
Oooops.
I got skewered for stating my (fairly reasoned) opinion on this a few months ago. No thanks!
Of course not. Not even a tiny little bit.
No.
I think Wii should count as a sport.
Lol, nooo, gaming is not sport. I don't even consider horse riding a sport, but its an olympic one. And although considerable phisical strength, resistance and reflexes are needed for the so called "motor sports", I wouldn't call them sports neither. I mean, the user "controls" the animal/thing that really does the effort to move.

Here, an educated person! Labels are not always valid, what, if we call a sport "olympics", it is actually, or had been once, "olympic"? Actually, classic olympic sports were ONLY FIVE. Everything else is invention, addition, monetization and/or fabrication.

Some people even consider illegal street racing to be a sport! Come on, people! Everything is a sport, now?? :D
Nothing involving money is a sport.

Pro sports aren't sports?
As long as checss can be a sport...
Wikipedia, while not necessarily the end-all-be-all of knowledge and correctness state that:

The closest to an international agreement on a definition is provided by SportAccord, which is the association for all the largest international sports federations [...], and is therefore the de facto representative of international sport.

SportAccord uses the following criteria, determining that a sport should:

* have an element of competition
* be in no way harmful to any living creature
* not rely on equipment provided by a single supplier
* not rely on any "luck" element specifically designed into the sport

They also recognise that sport can be primarily physical (such as rugby or athletics), primarily mind (such as chess or go), predominantly motorised (such as Formula 1 or powerboating), primarily co-ordination (such as billiard sports), or primarily animal-supported (such as equestrian sport).

There has been an increase in the application of the term "sport" to a wider set of non-physical challenges such as electronic sports, especially due to the large scale of participation and organised competition, but these are not widely recognised by mainstream sports organisations.
I bolded the bit relevant to computer games, the rest is kept mostly to stoke the fire for people not considering formula1, chess, and horse racing sports.

Having sports defined by physique or centuries of acceptance is a bullshit idea. Frankly, the old guard are angry because there is less money and attention being given to them.
