I am building a multimedia machine/server with 50W athlon II x2 and 8gb of unbuffered ECC on desktop ASUS M3N78-EM =)

The tiny old 8300 IGP is video accelerated(VP3) in the Nouveau open driver :)

Price? Laughable :D

I'd feel "safer" with ECC, but I just have a normal desktop PC.

I've got an AMD FX on an Asus 990X motherboard, supports EEC RAM of course - but I couldn't find any for sale on this stupid island when I was building my machine. Still can't find it and I don't feel confident enough to buy it online, in case of RMA. It's easier when you have the retailer close.

If your handbook lists ECC, then simply read this and go for it.

And its running. ASUS and AMD really rock, can't beat the ~ $80 price for 8gb ecc server!

Heck, could even insert a decent VGA card in it and turn it into gaming machine, but current AMD CPUs are .... well,.. I am waiting for Zen to drop the Xeon!
