We’re happy to announce we’ve just started rolling out new web installers for all GOG games. What is it, you ask? Web installer is a small file (around 1MB) that makes it easy and fast to download and install your GOG games. After downloading and launching the web installer, it triggers the process of installing or updating (if needed) GOG Galaxy on your computer, and afterwards it automatically launches the installation of the game on your machine. This way we’re minimizing your engagement in the whole installation process, and you can focus on enjoying playing the game!

Introduction of web installers means a few additional changes. First, from now on the main game view in your "Library", you will see two options to install your game - with GOG Galaxy via new web installer, and the „classic installers” without GOG Galaxy, which are now called "offline backup game installers”. So if you don’t want to use our optional client, you don’t have to look for the classic installers through „More” option, just download the installer files from the second section.
Second change means, we’re removing entirely the previous GOG Galaxy game installers. So if you want to take full advantage of all GOG Galaxy features in your games, just use the new web installers.

Hope you like the feature, and it will expand your experience of using GOG.com the way you want.

Nice! This is much better than your previous solution with Galaxy and Classic installers. And it much easier to find the offline installers now.
Looking good, should be easier for new users now.

Sounds cool! Does it check the files after it has downloaded them and before installing them in case something got corrupted or whatever (not enough technical knowledge here:)? Or is this not necessary?

I haven't tried downloading anything yet (I'm not at home) but the presentation is nice and clear, and it sounds like the web installers work in a very practical way. Sounds like this should make everyone happier.
Like both options. I use Galaxy a lot but i do like to have offlline backups in case of any problems so a win win for me.
Was expecting something like this when the Galaxy installers disappeared.

Presentation looks nice, clear and easy to use which ever method you want.

Nice job guys :)

Edit: Also if Galaxy is installed does this mean clicking the web installer link will basically just launch Galaxy and download the game through that? That would be handy if it were the case.

The blue button finally got some much-needed love. :)
Now we're talking!
Thanks for the update a lot!
Will test it later on, have to reboot my machine to Windows first..
Also glad to see old GOG Downloader links seems to be still on.

I don't think the "DOWNLOAD AND INSTALL NOW" button is big enough :P Also, is it just me or is "Download size 1MB (additional space required for GOG Galaxy installation and [insert game title here])" a bit, you know, vague?

Still, I guess it is an improvement of sorts. At least it easier to access the offline installers. However, GOG team's communication skills are the stuff PR specialists tell each other round the campfire instead of ghost stories. Would it have been so hard to let us know that instead of the promised option to set classic installers as default there will be a different solution implemented, and tell us when? Instead you made it look like you straight up lied and then ignored us for something like a year.

Fantastic, a much better solution.

Just to confirm: the GOG Downloader links will still download the offline backup installers, right?
Nicely done, Gog.
Top stuff, can't complain.

Yes, if you have GOG Galaxy installed the game will just be added to the download queue. You will also get the game installation screen in GOG Galaxy to set the installation path.
Wow, this is excellent news and simplifies things so much! Thank you for doing this GOG team! <3
I really appreciate this change, it makes a lot easier choosing how to download the games, thank you!
