It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).
We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

Today we're rolling out the new notification system on GOG.com. The goal is to keep track of your social activity, deals relevant to you, as well as major announcements we have for you.

The new system allows you to get a notification when there is a new reply to your forum post, when you receive a new chat message or when you get a friend request. If a game you have wishlisted goes on sale, expect to hear about it right away, too.

This new system has been available in the test environment of the Galaxy client for the last three weeks, so we would like to thank all of you who helped test and improve it ahead of its full release.

Please note the new notification system is focused around social notices and offers relevant to you, and won’t show you a overdue list of all updated games you haven’t clicked on yet, not on the website, nor in GOG Galaxy. We’re keeping the previous game installer updates working exactly as they did, so you can check which games got updated in your „Library” view via the „Updated” filter (by My Collection) and the blue dots by the game’s title.
Thanks for additional feedback regarding the new notifications! We're working on some small fixes, and we'll be adding the HTML functionality to notifications as well.

Lexor: *snip
I've sent you a PM about it, let me know!

And it's alive - notifications have HTML functionality, so you can open each notification in a new tab.

skeletonbow: That was fast, a new trend? :P
We're doing our best :)

Painted_Doll: I repeat my question : How can i disable this feature ?
Sorry, but you cannot disable notifications. You can disable some notifications that pop up on desktop in GOG Galaxy, but still it's not something you can disable entirely.
avatar
Drosa: Is this new system why I can't get to my library via the website anymore? Or fully load the front page when I try to go back to it? I'm using IE 11.

Using Firefox I can't go past the front page. All links do nothing but reload it.
It looks like a similar issue as what Lexor is experiencing. It may be linked with using old versions of web browsers - we're investigating this issue.

Cavalary: Fully up to date here.
And GOG doesn't work for you on both IE and FF? It stoped working after introducing notifications, or you had any issues before that?
avatar
HypersomniacLive: And I just discovered that once you get a new notification, you can stop the flickering of tab-titles by clicking on the bell. Would have been appreciated if a GOG stuffer had told us, before we all go crazy.
We'll try to make it less annoying tomorrow. :)

eiii: And just another variation, I got the blinking tab titles and a notification from BE for your reply, but no notification in GOG's bell counter and window. ;)

avatar
HypersomniacLive: Thank you, try your best, please.

But the only sure way for this to be less annoying is to kill it with fire. So could you, please, also give us an option to disable it completely?
avatar
eiii: +1

avatar
HypersomniacLive: I'm so sorry for all the issues you, and others, have. I'd drop Johny. a message.
avatar
eiii: No worries. :) I'm quite sure when GOG hasn't fixed it within a few weeks Barefoot_Monkey or adaliabooks will fix at least the major annoyances and give us the options we need to configure it.

avatar
drmike: The flickering browser tabs are annoying.

edit: The Clean All button gets rid of it. Never mind.
avatar
eiii: Unfortunately you only have that "Clear All" button when the bell counter actually shows a notification.

Ha ha, now different tabs even show different numbers for the notifications... Looks like this implementation still needs a bit of work. :P
What browser and version are you using? We are aware of one specific issue in not modern browsers, which will be probably fixed tomorrow.
We just uploaded a fix for all those who had issues with viewing GOG on IE11 and FF! If you still experience any issues, please let me know!

Johny.: What browser and version are you using?
avatar
eiii: Firefox 52 ESR
And as skeletonbow have noticed - you need to add notifications.gog.com and menu.gog.com to whitelist if you're using browser plugins that whitelist calls.

Eolowyn: The fix worked for me. Library is working again as well as the rest of GoG's Websites.

There is one bug: if I click on "Clear all" in the alarm bell tab, the notifications vanish but as soon as I go to another site (forum, library, store, etc.) the same cleared notifications reappear.

Also an option to individualise the notifications you are getting would be highly appreciated: e.g. turning notifications on/off for wishlisted items and forum posts. Maybe add an option to activate/deactivate notifications for single forum posts/threads: so you could stop getting notifications for threads you are no longer interested in.

Cavalary: Can confirm both that it now works in IE11 in general and that clearing doesn't work, notifications returning (albeit not with the red background) on another page.
On my FF it doesn't but guess that's because GOG requires DOM storage enabled and I have it disabled on FF. Enabling it momentarily made it work, but like I said, using FF if I have reason to believe something may be unsafe, so that'll stay locked down (and not used for GOG, which I sure hope I won't have reason to consider potentially unsafe at any point).
(Also backing the suggested options, of course.)
Clear all should now work in IE11.

HypersomniacLive: Did you do anything about the tab-titles flashing? If you did, it's not working; it's still as annoying as yesterday.
We couldn't release it yesterday, but now it should be less annoying for you. ;)

You probably know that, but for others:
If you go to that tab - it will stop blinking for this tab.
If you mark notifications as seen (open the dropdown, make it not red) - it will stop blinking in all tabs. It only says about unseen notifications.

lsopocko: Clear all should now work in IE11.
avatar
Cavalary: Yep, does.

Personally would still much prefer such things to happen server side and the browser generally getting basic HTML to work with, maybe with some stuff being retrieved again every X seconds for active notifications while staying on the page, making it not particularly matter which browser it is.
Well, it actually is done server side. Bug was caused by XMLHttpRequest in IE11 and handling of DELETE requests to server.

Bookwyrm627: FYI:
I'm on mobile, and the bell rang. I can tap to get the drop down menu (shows me I have a new chat message), but no amount of tapping is opening the chat page to show me the full message. I've tried tapping in different areas, but it just flashes a bit of the area I tapped and then the drop down closes. Nothing else happens.
Couple minutes ago I've released fix for this. Thanks!

HypersomniacLive: Do pending notifications drop off the bell after a certain amount of time? If yes, for how long do they show?

The "My posts" page correctly shows that I have four forum notifications, and so does BE, but the bell says I have three. Since the missing notification is the oldest one, I was wondering if pending notifications drop off after X amount of time, and what that is.
Forum algorithm for making post replies and sending the notification is the same, but the forum reply "in-bell-notification" is cleared as soon as you enter/refresh the topic in which it appeared. Which might not be the case for the in-forum counting (conditions for clearing the count might be different).

Yes - they have expiration date set, I see it's 1 month now for forum reply notification, but it should be 13 months really (I've reported it now) as it's for other notifications.
