JinKazaragi: Also, since I don't intend to play in 4k anytime soon. I'll probably be able to skip the next generation without having to turn down a single setting anyway.
You can also opt for 144-165 Hz display with QHD resolution (2560x1440). Unlike 4k, it is runnable with great frame rates even today. And the higher FPS is extremely noticeable and helpful, especially in fast-paced games.

I wouldn't buy a display below 144Hz anyway.
As for the resolution, on a 24" display I'm completely fine with 1080p. And I can't go any bigger than 24" because there wouldn't be enough space on my Desk.
I plan to change that situation in the future, but that'll still take 1-2 years.

Yep, once I got a 144hz monitor I was amazed at what a difference it makes. Playing F.E.A.R. right now at 144fps and it's so lovely. It's much better than 4k60fps, and a reason to stick to PC since I'm sure console games will always prioritize graphics over framerate.

However keep in mind it's hard to run modern games anywhere near 144fps, and a lot of older ones break above 60. You'll only be able to enjoy 144fps like half the time (with singleplayer games anyway). I started a thread a while back about my frustration with this, because 144fps is so awesome it sucks to not have it all the time.

There are 24" displays with QHD (but not that many unfortunately). I am using one in fact because 27" is a bit too big for my tastes too. I upgraded from a 21.5" 1080p. The DPI and hence the detail on that thing is incredible. But some people might have trouble with web pages, icons and texts in general being a bit smaller than usual.

I have a 1080ti and even most newer games sit comfortably above 100 FPS on max graphics. Most recently RAGE 2 which was very smooth. That would be unthinkable at 4k.

And playing UT2004 on 165 Hz is something else. I got noticeably better since I upgraded the monitor.

It is still going to be a few years before we can run 4k at decent frame rates. Until then, 1440p is where it's at currently.

There will always be a few games that can annihilate any GPU you throw at it. But of course, the situation with the 1080ti will keep slowly getting worse and worse as new games and technologies release, leading to a necessary upgrade in the future.

I personally haven't encountered a game yet where I could not utilize the high FPS with the 1080ti. I am not saying that it can handle absolutely everything but only most of it. As long as I am in the 100-120+ FPS territory, I am happy. Anything above is a bonus and I only try to squeeze out maximum frames in FPS games, which is probably the only genre where it offers a major, tangible benefit.

Next new game I am going to play is probably going to be The Surge 2, when it releases here. I am eager to see how the 1080ti fares there.

Yeah it depends on the game. I was able to turn a couple things down and run Outer Worlds at 100+fps, but in Control no matter what I did it ran at 60fps in some areas. My point is people should be prepared to deal with 60fps when necessary, for old games that can't go higher or new games that won't run higher. It sucks but it is what it is. Even if you buy the 2080ti equivalent every couple years there will still be games you'll have to use lower settings for, or games that won't run above 60.
It's working!
I'm using a weaker GPU right now (got a 2060 Super for 100€) which I will upgrade later this year though.

Nice! I really like that case. I'd never got with white, personally, but the design looks sharp and more compact than the NZXT case I have. (Also, I downgraded my GPU during initial build to a 2070 Super and everything I've thrown at it hasn't really fazed it yet.) Hope you enjoy your new rig!

That's a Lian Li 011 Dynamic XL, I would've prefered it in black too but they didn't have that one in stock at the time.
It's actually silver, you just don't see it well in the picture as my camera sucks.
