you mean "Strikers 1945"?
free options: Tyrian 2000 might be similar. If you don't mind a horizontal view, you could try Stargunner or Nebula Fighter.
Maybe you could try Raptor Call of the Shadows (the DOS original is preferable to the 2010 edition apparently). I played both Raptor and Stargunner and found both quite difficult (but had fun with Raptor) but that's just me.
Raiden Legacy is another.
