Hi,
I am currently trying to play Thief: Deadly shadows and I can't play it because of the frame rate bug.
I also want to limit frame rates in other games in order to keep my GPU temperatures low.

Using Rivatuner to limit the frame rate causes Thief to crash and causes frame rate drops in other games like STRAFE.
Nvidia Inspector works in getting Thief to run but it is limited in the programs that it can frame limit. Also, Inspector permanently modifies the graphics driver (until you install a new driver) and I would rather avoid a program like that.

Does anyone know of a reliable alternative software to limit frame rates for any game?

Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you.
Maybe try using Dxtory - at least about 2 years back it allowed the limitation of fps even in the free version and without recording anything
Not a software but a quick google says Thief DS has a cam_ext.cfg file you can edit and set framerate_cap to 59. Have you tried that?

I haven't played this game so I;m winging this response.

VWood: Thank you.
I also googled what this is, and the general fix some discussions mentioned was:

- Enable vsync in the game options.

- If your monitor is one of those fantsy-pantsy 120Hz monitors, set the refresh rate to 60Hz in the video card driver options.

Of course if there are other more elegant solutions like editing that config file someone mentioned, even better. So it appears this game has issues (with lockpicking, climbing etc.) if the framerate goes over 60 fps?

That file is actually in the Dark engine games like Thief 1 & 2 and System Shock 2. Thanks for bringing it to my attention though, it will be useful when I run those games.
Try putting your computer into power saving mode, or underclocking your CPU and/or GPU; this should reduce the amount of heat produced and power consumed at the expense of performance.

Strange as I made sure it was discussions for 3 where I pulled the info from.

Sorry for the confusion. :)
Are you using Rivatuner or Rivatuner Statistics Server (RTSS)? RTSS got a new version released this month, try it.
