Also yes, for a long ass time now.
I thankfully cannot claim firsthand experience in such matters, but I'm pretty sure that if you asked most soldiers who have seen a real life battlefield firsthand, they'd likely tell you there is a world of difference between the routine tensions of nation-states and an actual war where people are dying.

Tensions between different geo-political groups are unfortunately an unavoidable part of our genetic makeup, but if we play our cards right, we might at least succeed in avoiding true stupidity (ie, actually blowing each other to bits over things that really aren't worth dying over when you look at them with a more rational frame of mind) for quite some time.
