Huh. EA is still listed as the publisher on the Steam page.

Whoever gets to make the call, I'd like to see it on GOG.

Pond86: Just posted my thanks there as well.

Also I never knew they owned Beasts & Bumpkins, I remember playing the demo of that back in the day and loving it.
Looks like the folks who made that game are still around - https://www.worldweaver.com/ - but it's not exactly clear if they have the full rights or if EA is the one who'd have to bring it here.

"We love games, and have crafted simple titles through to in-depth multiplayer games. Our first game was Beasts and Bumpkins, published through EA. Our latest game is WordBog a simple social word game that's got a growing community."

In any case, I sent a message to the WW folks.

Just a followup, WW got back to and said, "B&B works fine on Win10 with a small mod to the installer, but as you guessed EA own the publishing rights." They also mentioned being interested in a re-release, but having been unable to get a response from EA on the matter (in the past).

Tyrrhia: When I searched, this afternoon, for a possible related game to his previous Alice games, I went to his Twitter feed and found this sad, sad series of tweets: (
Wow, this makes me really sad. I've enjoyed a lot both games and thought that it was something unique and fitter the world wonderfully.
I hope that someday himself, or some other company gets to buy the license, and I think that it will happen, because EA wants to make money.

Seriously, I don't understand what are they doing out there. I mean are they collecting licenses? Because they aren't doing anything else with them, like reboot/remake/remaster and so on. They just keep it in a cold room forgotten by time.

I think, in general, they just don't want to spend the money (lawyers) on such a small return-on-investment.

Thanks for contacting them. Well hopefully EA are seeing the love that their games get on GOG, so hopefully they might decide to release it and do something with the franchise.

I understand that, but what I don't understand is why they don't sell the licenses then, I mean if they aren't doing anything with them anymore why let them rot instead of getting some cash by selling it?
I also wouldn't call 200k or more as a small return-on-investment, even if they are EA.

What 500k? Dollars? Out of this game? Highly doubtful. Assuming they sold this game here for $6, they would have to sell over 100k non-discounted copies to reach $500k and when even one of the best-selling games here on GOG (Psychonauts) hasn't even reached 35k copies sold (which is often heavily discounted), that's a really tall order for a relatively unknown game.

No, I was actually talking about selling licenses, since I remember that someone just bought a license a few months ago for that amount.

License or rights?

Licensing would imply that EA would be giving a temporary permission to a company to distribute and/or remake the game/make a new sequel and in return, EA would be getting a percentage out of each sale (and perhaps some money upfront).

Selling the rights to the game would mean that EA would be transferring their ownership of the game to a new company in exchange for a set amount of money (and/or perhaps some royalties for some years).

In both cases, the amount of money that would be needed would be up to the seller, with more valuable IPs requiring more money.

Well, the article I've read said that they obtained it for 500k, so I guess it was rights, but the article clearly said license, so to be fair I don't know, and I don't remember what game it was, only that it was an old one.
Oh, and by the way it wasn't EA who sold it.

Does anyone know if EA ever bothered to patch the original C&C to fix the massive game breaking bug that prevents anyone from ever being able to finish the game if played in Windows XP or any newer Windows as well as under Wine in Linux?

When I hit the bug years ago after buying the Ten Year edition I googled around endlessly and found a community patch that patched the game to fix that bug via a binary hack, as well as adding high resolution and widescreen support among other things. Without that patch the game experiences a bug at a specific point on a specific map and it is impossible to proceed further. The problem is due to a bug in the game which writes into memory outside of its memory address range causing a General Protection Fault. The issue never occurred in the original game because DOS is not a protected mode operating system so the bug occurs but the CPU+OS does not trap it and throw a fit.

I hope the latest version of the game has that fixed, otherwise it is unplayable without that community patch, and if GOG ever does get the game I hope they don't just get it working on the first mission and say "tested, works, ship it!" because the game will be broken and unable to be completed unless EA has fixed it since the 10 year edition came out.
I failed to reply to the topic, I could only preview a post, not submit in the original topic.

So I decided to copy-paste the text I tried to post to a new topic: Hurray for Dragon Age: Origins; waiting for old Battlefield games

Hop in if you want to post your joy, I didn't include a a complete wishlist though, that wasn't my original intent.

Does anyone know how to add to the original topic, is posting in a topic disabled after a certain time period?
