Hey everyone, I've got a question that should be pretty obvious from the title. Truth be told, I am pretty sure I got the answer already, but I want to make 100% sure that there isn't something that I am missing.

I love GOG, I think this store is not only more consumer-friendly, but it's also the best place to actually find the games I am looking for without having to rummage through countless amounts of trash as I do on Steam.

I've traded in my modern consoles at a video game store, and all they could offer me in terms of PC content was Steam gift cards. I am stuck with quite a few (still unredeemed) Steam Gift Cards now, which makes me very happy of course, but I'd be much happier to use them at a store that I'd like to support with my wallet. It sounds pretentious, I know, but I feel bad checking the GOG homepage for releases that I care about only to then purchase them on Steam. It's like I am taking advantage of the awesome curation team at GOG and then just turn coat and support the HORRIBLE non-existent Steam curation that forces anime porn visual novels down my throat alongside low effort early access games that aren't worth any player's time.

Not to mention, the sales here cover games that I actually want to purchase more often than the Steam sales do, so I'd love to take advantage of those sales without feeling stupid for not using my Steam credit.

So, is there any solution to this 'problem'? I know that this is the most first-world-y problem you can have, and it's not REALLY a problem either way, but I feel very strongly about the 'vote with your wallet' principle, so I'd like to make sure there's no way to somehow convert these cards into GOG credit.

(I also realize that I am basically shilling for a company on their own website, so let me make clear that I appreciate that Steam carries some games that some players love that aren't available on GOG... I just personally don't feel comfortable over there)

Thank you in advance! :)

Gog connect for select titles. Some people here run trade threads, but you have to be extra careful.

As I see it, your options are basically:
A: Sell all your remaining Steam gift cards, and use the proceeds to to fill up your GOG Wallet.
B: Redeem your Steam gift cards and use the credit to buy gift copies of games on sale at a high discount, then try to flog those at a reseller site. (This one would probably be the most headache, and would carry the most risk of not recouping your investment.)
C: Start buying on GOG when possible, and save your Steam credit for any games that are hugely unlikely to come here any time soon (most new and recent AAA's, most Japanese games, and any number of others). Probably the best option.
D: Some combination of A and/or B and/or C.

You can also give away some of those during Crimbo. The problem of thinking of a gift solved for a couple of persons maybe :-)

There is no direct way to convert Steam gift cards into GOG Wallet funds.

HunchBuntley's suggestions, especially A, are pretty much it.

As was already mentioned, there is no possibility to use Steam gift cards in any form on GOG.COM
You could try with GOG Connect's deals, that happen from time to time, or taking advantage of the GOG Reclaim offer for a few selected retail versions of titles (gog.com/reclaim) if possible :)

Where have you been?

You can't buy gift copies of Steam games for over a year now.
Don't be picky and just use them. Enjoy games by actually playing games. It's fun, I swear!

I have never so much as created a Steam account. Consequently, I find myself missing news of most of the little developments on their service until well after the fact. :)

Gotcha. Yeah , you can't buy gift copies and keep them in your inventory any more. So, to that kind of gifting, you have to buy keys at other places, like Humble.

I would say buy at lest multiplayer games on steam and then rest on gog, gog doesn't have a huge multiplayer fan base... although quake and unreal would be the only 2 games i know of if there are multiplayer players on gog.

but if you don't care for multiplayer games then 100% gog only as for steam games you have choices what people gave you.

whats worse is that you sold your game console it sounds wrong but most places only give you a fraction of the cost back which game stop is know to be the worse. I also never heard of a store giving you steam credit that place sounds fishy...
