jonridan: Hated the new Lara (and her new voice), hated tha sandbox "alla Assassin's Creed", hated the parkour and missed the old gimnastics, missed the two guns, hated every single character, the story was pretty good though.
Mhmm... There's a lot about the game i didn't like, certain QTE's and jumpscares where it makes no sense, getting caught, the way she acted after the fact... The concentration of the series not being no her exploring and looting and more of 'how she became a tough girl from a shitty experience', it was... well... disappointing. Like trying to force a square into a pentagon slot. (some of the same elements/points, but formula wasn't the same).
PS4 for great "mature" exclusives (Detroit, God of war, Last of Us, Yakuza's...) and many big PSN sales.

Switch... Hardware revision is bound to happen with more storage and fixing problems (overheat, fans, etc...) while library is mostly Nintendo family games and indies. Portability seems neet though.

Also BOTW is overrated as a system seller, so few enemy variety, borefest subquests except one (building a village), lack of actual dungeons... Wide as an ocean and deep as a puddle.
Regarding "mobile option" - I would strongly recommend to consider GPD Win (first iteration is cheaper, but GPD Win 2 has better hardware) instead of Switch.

It's basically handheld with Windows 10 but "stationary" version, not mobile. Which means that you can play on it plenty, plenty of PC indie games as well as plenty of old games from GOG and not only. I've got both GPD Win and GPD Win 2 and I can tell that it's the best handheld I ever had. Only problem is sometimes to deal with "resolution problem", but there are solutions checked and tested on various forums.

If you don't have strong pressure on playing Nintendo's games (Switch is natural choice in such case), I would strongly recommend to consider GPD's handheld (GPD Win 1 has prices close to Switch).

DadJoke007: BotW is easily emulated on PC if you are so inclined, God of War is not. That might help your decision.
Indeed. I play BotW on PC and it looks better than it does on the native Switch. I don't normally do this kind of thing but i saw a media article about it and got curious. So i did some looking around to help me (clue: look for BSoD gaming on youtube) and got to expereince BotW. It's a great game btw, one of the best Zelda's but not perfect, and certainly not enough to want to own any single console for.

@BeatriceElysia,

The thing is is console gaming is a super expensive hobby vs PC, and it ties you down to that expense. I gave consoles up in the xbox/PS2 era and have not wanted to go back. Just so many more (cheaper) options on PC.

I think the Nintendo is a great system for kids and IF i was to get one for my own (as they grow up) it would be one of them, as the other consoles are in general just too focused on graphical depictions of violence (and i worry about that on developing minds), but in truth ALL consoles are 'lesser' expereinces (you can't mod games easily for example) with a restriced range of games vs the PC and a tight controlling influence from the company, and get expensive quick.

Save your money, look into the emulation scene if you feel you have to and stick with a PC. You can always watch some 'let's play' video's on youtube of console specific titles to see what you mostly are not missing ;)

I'm not coming from a 'PC Master Race' viewpoint here, just in case that was not clear. I have owned consoles since the AtariVCS era(!) but just 'woke up' to the fact that the whole gaming industry changed quite fundementally in the 90's (ie it got much more focused on the business side of making games (ripping of customers!) more than the making the best games it could etc). After that change i could see that the console platform was just going to become so restrictive and expensive, by design, and just did not want or need that. YMMV.

The Switch is the best console since the DS/3DS.

Eitot: Handheld mode is great, but the battery limits it quite a bit and it will likely get worse as the battery ages. I have never gotten more than roughly three hours of playtime out of a full charge.
Ever since I saw powerbanks promotes with Switch compatibility I knew this is going to happen.
Why not both? If you have the money, that's it....
3 hours of battery life at most? Damn... If only I could play more than an hour straight. I usually play about 30-60 minutes, then do other shit, then play some more. If I can play 2 hours a day I think is enough, and I always charge it in between sessions... If I play multiplayer then is docked so no battery problem there. I guess I'm trying to say that depends on how long your play sessions are, and if you play handheld, THEN you can worry about battery life. I don't. Others do. Other people only use it docked. Etc...

I wish I had the opportunity to complaint about battery life of 3 hours haha
Found the more accurate Nintendo Switch load speed test times video thanks to archive.org https://archive.org/details/youtube-2WWsAT_KJJY but keep in mind you will get slower load times in general due to not having a hacked Switch.

For either console you'll need to buy extra peripherals to get the most out of the console, not so much for PS4 (I'd get a Pro if I were you) but definitely applies for the Switch. Sd cards, an actual controller, save backups and various other things you might find yourself suddenly needing, which is why I've hacked my Switch due to all its built-in short-comings.
I feel the Switch will do you better for overall quality, but your wallet won't like it.
