ChaunceyK: So. Am I officially a bad gamer now, or what?
No there are many fun games you can find on steam but not gog and vice versa. And there are games on both that I prefer on gog because configuring dosbox is easier on gog but there are games on both that I prefer on steam because I find steam's system for activating and deactivating mods easier to ue.

BoxOfSnoo: One thing I totally ignore is the forums. Nothing good happens there,
The game specific subforums are pretty nice if you avoid the few troll threads. It's quite possoble to have some relaxed chat about the game you're playing (Something you rarely have on GOG since 90% of the subforums are deserted). Sure, there will be some arrogant assholes, troll threads, and annoying morons, but you also get them on GOG or on pretty much any big public community, so...

Never went to the more general forums. Their reputation always kept me away (and the fact that when I go there, it's to talk about the game I'm playing right now, not to engage in political bickering with 13-years old. Maybe I should apply that policy to GOG forums too.)

trentonlf: No. I game on PC, XBOX, WII, and PS 3/4. On the PC I use Steam, GOG, Origin, and UPlay. Where you play your games does not matter, what matters is if you enjoy them. Getting caught up in the drama of market shares or what platform is better is just that, drama. Enjoy whatever game you want on whatever platform you want. Life is to short to worry about how others feel about playing games on anything that is not DRM free, I say play and enjoy them as much as you can no matter the platform.

Crewdroog: I have all these too!

hi trentonlf <3

and there are a good number of us gog regulars on steam. ;) don't let the few make you fee bad *points above*
Of course there's gog regulars on Steam.

And they're all traitors.

Well, those 30 silver coins are sure shiny! ;)

Yes, you are a bad, bad, bad gamer. Not for using Steam but for playing Tropico.

Just kidding. ;)

If a game is not available on GOG DRM free, then using Steam is totally fine, especially if you do not pay a lot like buying through a Humble Bundle. I use Steam too but I have much more games on GOG than on Steam. I consider that good enough.

ChaunceyK: Been thinking about getting Tropico 4, and lo and behold, today Humble Bundle offered a free Steam key for it. The temptation was too much!

I just went ahead & joined, and although I've yet to become an active community Steam member, I'm actually finding a Steam account to be useful. I've bought maybe 3 Bundles in the last year or so, and I always wished the HB site would let me tag & sort the games I bought as Favorites (so I wouldn't have to wade through each of the games I didn't want). I even sent HB a "suggestion" to allow this, and I got a generic "Sounds useful, I'll pass it on" reply. But now, redeeming only the games I'm interested on Steam? What a way for me to keep track!

Still, GOG will be my digital-download home. Anytime I can buy something on GOG instead of Steam, I will....unless it's an unexpected freebie like Tropico 4 or a HB that's too good to pass up. And maybe I'll even get lucky, and some of those Steam keys will get the "link your Steam & GOG games together" treatment that's already been offered for a very small number of games.

So. Am I officially a bad gamer now, or what?
Nope you are not. It is nearly impossible to avoid Steam anyway. And also gaming is our hobby and we enjoy playing games. So, just put aside the politics and enjoy your games that's all.

ChaunceyK: I don't like that I have separate login names & user names, but what can I do. My user name (if I'm using the proper term) is You Big Dummy, with a pic of Fred Sanford. I didn't realize Steam would use that name in some of their games, so I had quite a chuckle when those games would say something like "Welcome back, You Big Dummy!"
I assume you're aware you can change your user name at any time? (Matching your login name might not be the best choice security wise but if you really want to it's possible :) )

ChaunceyK: If anyone could suggest some reputable Steam key sites (as well as sites to avoid) I'd appreciate it. I think I've only bought from Humble Bundle so far.

trentonlf: Use Bundlestars, Humble Bundle, Indiegala, or greenman gaming for keys. I have use all for years with no issues.

nothing wrong using GOG and Steam but it's much easier and safer because i live in the U.S. because i can buy steam cards at stores so i don't need to use credits cards and such. for me gog is great because it's dmr-free and such but doesn't have really any good games i enjoy, i finally got around to mount and blade after getting it free on gog a year or 2 back, the problem i have is older games and either controls or game mechanic since.

i didn't really play PC games till 2000 so games like Theme Hospital, dungeon keeper even Red alert game on origin i never beat, i only beat the games after that one because the base building space limit made me salty

I normally buy on steam as well because they have newer games with controls i can play with but even a few classic ones i can play but not too old that i get salty

I'm not sure I know what makes a "good gamer" or "bad gamer".

What I do know is last time I tried using Steam I became an "irritated gamer".
More then gamer, a bad person.
