I'm getting so tired of seeing "Hi new visitor! This site stores COOKIES on your PC! If you accept, then feel free to look around. If not, then screw you!"

Or this crap, "Oh you ad hater! You use an adblocker! Now we can't afford running our site for hundreds of other visitors who we love to infect with viruses through our ads or just to annoy the living HELL out of!"
The cookies one is a legal thingy, so no going around that. And honestly, as common as cookies are, forcing websites to let me know if they are touching my file system is nice.
Understandable. The cookie warning thing is a EU guideline made by people who don't understand how www works. Cookies aren't inherently bad, in fact they are a requirement to let you stay logged in. Web is "stateless", meaning every click is "starting a program". Cookies are the only way that program can know you. They're like a parameter the browser sends along to start this program on the server.

On the other hand, third-party-cookies are indeed used for tracking users over half of the internet, and so they're bad.

Personally I would recommend to just ignore/click away the cookie warnings (acceptance of those is of course stored in a cookie if you're not logged in). For protecting privacy use Adblock Plus/Edge and Ghostery. NoScript if you know what you're doing. Flash- and PDF pluginbs should be set to "click to run", so you can select what to allow and what to deny.
Yeah, I'm tired of cookies too. I want ice-cream !

Lol, this, so much this. I understand that ad revenue can be important to a service I use but if those assholes can't make sure that the ads on their websites aren't trying to steal my credit card info or something they can go fuck themselves.

It would be much easier for everyone if the websites that don't use cookies proclaimed that they don't use them.

As programmer behind a website that didn't use cookies, I was asked to put the message anyay. Because reasons.

Now I have to ask: what reasons?
Hasn't it been shown that it's all a pointless unenforceable waste of time?

I'm sure I read something ages ago about how hardly anyone is actually properly compliant (even things like government websites) and there's not really any point..

Which is why I took the warning off my site, because I hated it and it's not likely the EU are going to come after me and tell me off...

I agree. But I'm curious how a penis could be shaped in such a way.

Now there's something I don't care about. Because it looks cool? Because maybe they'll add cookies later and they want to cover their asses? Because they see it anywhere and want it on their site too?

client: there's no warning about cookies.
me: well, there are no cookies.
client: we need the warning.
me: ... Ok, whatever.
After I read this topic, I really want to eat cookies :P
