I just had a look at the Steam store page for Horizon Zero Dawn. As of now, it's got a 'mixed' review rating - people seem to be saying it's a bad port and crashing frequently. It's a game I would really like to play and had hoped might come to GOG at some point, but if so I hope they fix it up properly first.

The page has no mention of DRM that I can see, which is something at least.

Also ... $50 for a 3 year old game you can get for less than $20 new on Playstation. Seems a bit gouge-y?

I own the PS4 (hardcopy) and have played the PC version. In regards to the PC version I can say it runs ok, didn’t notice anything major. Graphically quite nice, though there were odd artifacts such as some shadows. It did not detract. I experienced no crashing. Probably 5-10 hours of play. I doubt this will ever come here, so get a PS4 copy would be my recommendation if you really want to play it. As far as I am aware different resolutions and m+k are the biggest selling points and as it’s a controller based game - and they did not change that at all for the PC version, then it’s not worth $50. It’s a fun game though, open world.
I haven't run into the crashing issues so many others have, but the frames are all over the place on it. I can have one session where I consistently get over 60 fps on ultra/high settings, and then the next session it becomes a stuttery mess and I'm dipping down to 25-30 fps in the same exact areas.

There's not much rhyme or reason to it. If it becomes a slide show, I save, close the game, restart it, and the next session immediately afterward 99% of the time is fine.

I was thinking it was my system at first, because so many people on steam are saying it's from people having crappy systems, but it doesn't appear that way. I'd look for a discount and give it a month or two for a couple optimization patches.

The company who developed it outsourced the port to a company called Virtuous that did a super crappy job, but the dev itself, Guerilla Games, is doing post launch patches, so it should be decent in a couple of months.

Well get it for the PS4 then.
I really gave up with playstation games after seeing enough of square enix newer games such XII remaster, XIII and nier automata

thought about horizon then took a pass, with the newer engines working quite fluid on my system, such as control, mechwarrior etc and older games seem to fluke a lot, i did not dare take the jump with so many systems failing on people

maybe in a couple of years during a sale

that said there are enough pc exclusives from 2013 and newer that still go for 60 , 50 for a deluxe edition does sound decent enough
Even Grimoire climbed from Mixed to Good score so why not the game from bigger developer.

And it feels like HZD at least get some patches while NIER Automata - won't.

no no, all praise for their dev team working around the clock pushing out patches to grant everyone their experience
i belief the next patch is due for coming wkend

of course this is a production company stationed in the netherlands....

and maybe niers engine is not so easily fixed

and not liking ff12 and 13 might be considered a style choice rather then bad production

not to mention the general ps quality compared to my quality experience on the pc

HZD PC version supposedly has all the DLC's/expansions and especially some specific PC-stuff like better resolutions support, ultra-wide support, unlocked framerates (if you have a PC that can handle this), better vegetation, improved reflections, and better graphics & customization settings - so yeah, I usually expect when a game first launches on a new platform, late or not, it's likely going to close to its original MSRP or a bit reduced from that.

See features video on it - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VNd7tpPzmzE
And also Digital Foundry's analysis on HZD PC - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7w-pZm7Zay4

Personally, I'm gonna wait - it sounds like it's a dice-roll, on if your PC will run it at all, if it'll run well or not, or who knows what. [/shrug]

Like most games - I'll get it when it's been patched-up; when it gets quite a bit cheaper; and/or when I buy better hardware; or a build or buy a new PC.

I've got so many games backlogged already here, it ain't even funny...
