announcement trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o77MzDQT1cg

Is it just me or does this look really, really cool? The trailer kind of made me feel like a kid again :D I suspect the music used in the trailer has a lot to do with it. There's just something about that whimsical 'the-promise-of-adventure' tune that I find impossibly alluring. Kind of makes you wonder if the trailer would've gone viral if it had had more generic music.

I can't imagine that I'll find time to play sadly it since this looks like something that will swallow hours by the bucketful. And local servers will probably be sparsely populated as usual :( Perhaps if my connection can manage a steady 250ms ping to the European servers I might be able to at least check it out.

Any thoughts on the game/trailer?

I dunno, it just looks like another one of those games that popped up in the wake of Minecraft going "it's like Minecraft combined with X" where X is pretty much any theme or gameplay genre.

I'm pretty tired of the "cubic people in a cubic world" aesthetic.
I have to agree. I saw this on moddb a few days back, and whilst it looks interesting if you look into it a bit there is no game or single player rpg game, it's just social gaming, so just a reskin of minecraft. So no, no interest at all.
But you are right in that the music and imagery early on in that video do feel 80/90s. Unfortunately it doesn't appear to have anything of the rest of the points of games from that era such as story, single player campaign etc.

I played minecraft for a bit years ago, but bounced off it pretty hard. I think in the end the game felt too empty/pointless to me and interacting with all the enemies in the game grew stale after a while. And graphic-wise I also didn't feel like it had enough options to add detail to my structures at the small scale that I preferred.
So probably that's part of the reason why I find this so appealing, since it at least seems to address those concerns: There looks to be interesting boss type monsters that require cooperation to take down, and there's mention of various adventure scenarios/quests whatever that might entail. The fighting looks pretty engaging and fun based on the trailer, and the engine seems to be far more versatile when it comes to the graphics.

The social aspect is worrying though. I don't believe I have the least bit patience to deal with griefers.

Incidentally, Cube World was another game I was interested in for similar reasons, but it seems that just sort of slowly died.

I've noticed it before that just like me, for you game music seems to have big impact in games and game trailers. :) I wonder if that is the actual in-game music, or yet another "this music is for the trailer only, the game itself has simple SID-like retro music"? (looking at you, Shovel Knight)

Yeah, I was also mostly impressed by the music in the trailer, less so with the game even though... who knows, maybe it could be good, regardless of the minecraft-copycat-graphics. Or is Hypixel the new name of Mojang nowadays?

Oh yes definitely, though that might just be because we value game atmosphere a lot :) And good music is one of the best ways to evoke a strong sense of atmosphere. Several of my fondest gaming memories are intimately related to the music that played during a particular section of a game.
But yes, I also wonder whether or not the actual ingame music will be as good, or at least if the ingame atmosphere can manage to capture the trailer's atmosphere.

As it happens, I just ended buying yet another game on sale, just because I was impressed by the music in the trailer, and some of the reviews also praised the ingame music:

That looks, and sounds pretty damn impressive I'll admit :)

For some reason reminded me of 5734L3R which I'm still hoping against hope will somehow see the light of day.

Music is important to me to the extent that some of my favourite games are up there because of their music. :P
That looks fun. I liked Minecraft for a while but it got stale after a while and building classic greek buildings only goes so far. I'd definitely give a more RPGish block builder game a whirl.
