Breja: The success of John Wick continues to baffle me. It's not bad but a very basic, mediocre action flick. There was defiantely nothing special about the script, but I don't think even the director achieved anything noteworthy there.

KoreaBeat: Really? I thought it was quite stylish with good choreography.
Good, yeah, but nothing special. There's just many movies in recent memory I liked much more, some that didn't get nearly the praise Wick did. Killer Elite was more stylish and had a better cast, Criminal had a much more interesting, original premise (and again a better cast) and London has Fallen was better in terms of over the top balls to the wall action. Not to even mention really great stuff like Kingsman or Man from U.N.C.L.E.

Eh, I'd say it (John Wick) scratches a different sort of itch. While I'd agree Kingsman was great stuff I felt Man from U.N.C.L.E. was pretty okay-ish. I did enjoy it very much and was glad to have caught it in theater but it is not a movie I'd rewatch if it was playing on TV again.
I really enjoyed the action scenes in John Wick, but the movie sort of lost me when it started getting into stuff like special hitman hotel, and Russian mobsters are more played out than Nazis at this point when it comes to villains.

Hitman has always seemed a curious choice to try and adapt to movies because it's about a guy who goes undercover to perform his executions, but somehow he's never recognized despite being distinctly bald and having a barcode tattooed on the back of his head. In video games you just ignore stuff like that, but it looks absurd in a live action movie. Then again, maybe that's why they're getting the John Wick guy - because he already did a very silly hitman movie.
