I say it depends on the announcement details

*Where:
nerby?
far away?
...
*Who
discovered whom?
do we understand each other?
*How:
Do they look? much bigger, stronger, advanced & smarter... or quite the opposite?
is a civilization like ours?
do they perceive us and we to them?
was the discovery?
...
*When:
was it discovered? today or N decades ago (and silently hidden)?
...
*Why:
are we informed? any chance of threat/invasion?
...
*What
communications have been exchanged already?
are the current terms among both?
is all about?
...
And so on...

But in general, I think I'd feel: Excited + Curious + Menaced + Alert + Hopeful
this is how it likely will go down

Where
most likely very far away (space is big)

Who
it's unlikely that communication will ever being establish

How
you most likely will see a space picture that looks like a dot..... and that will never change

When
anything is in the past when it comes to space....

Why
irrelevant

that's the outlook with the current known physics (only good thing they know the standard model is wrong/incomplete)

nah , they will provide , all they need is obedience
For reasons I can't discuss (because it'd get into religious discussion), I firmly believe that IF intelligent alien life exists, it's relatively low tech, maybe even borderline primitive. I don't believe they'll have space ships, high technology or even true cities. If you've ever read CS Lewis' Space Trilogy (particularly Out of the Silent Planet), that's the only sort of alien civilization that I consider a possibility.

If evidence were found of it, I'd be happy because it'd potentially validate a theory I have in regards to my faith and the concept of eternal life. That is, unless they announce alleged LGMs in flying saucers poised to invade earth in which case I'd be more than highly skeptical, especially given the BS we've been fed about various things over the last year.

why? Humanity exists and we have lame spaceships
so clearly your assumption is already proven wrong

and if you count in the time needed low tech to change into current tech is only 6-10k years, we can assume a civilization which is intelligent would be very rarely low tech, more likely all would evolve quickly into using ai and from there who knows

As I said, I can't get too in-depth with that because it'd spark a discussion that would be considered a no-go on the forums. I respect GOG's rules to the best of my ability. However, I will say this much: I believe humanity is unique, that we are the only species that has technology beyond simple tools. I believe we're the only portion of all of creation that can make machines, design computers, make vehicles, that sort of thing. Like I said, my reasons for believing that go into what the mods would consider religious discussion but that should give a little hint as to why I believe what I believe in regards to potential alien life.

this is pretty much my view with a few differences.

Abishia: snip
Thanks for expanding Abishia :)
Then you are basically sticking as much as possible to the reality
and I was letting my imagination fly to a more open scenario like fantasy/dreams, lol
I am afraid then I would feel just a little bit interested on the notice.
I don't know if all the news about UFO, ghosts and paranormal stuff have eroded my curiosity,
or I rationalize this theoretical situation as a very incipient revelation
that would take a long road before crystalize to something tangible to an average Joe like me.
It’s like listening right now the cancer cure was found...
would be great news without a doubt, but not palpable immediately on my daily life...
Maybe I'm being apathetic & grumpy... :S
I fully expect there is other life out there in this massive cosmos we inhabit the smallest, tiniest fraction of. So it wouldn't really effect me much outside of knowing what it is and thinking that's cool.

Only way I ever see this happening is through a crazy microscope though.
There is almost certainly alien life...

... but...

... life that would want to visit a far less advanced lifeform and culture?

It's possible...

... but knowing a number of organizations and factions -- both national and international -- vying for power / control, I think it's much more likely that alien visitation would be faked for those purposes (power and control) -- much like say the last act of the Watchmen or the theorized Project Blue Beam. (Research into large-scale holographic images has already shown the technology probably already exists to promulgate a massive hoax that could be seen and documented from the ground by millions.) And those near the top of "the food chain" are quite clever, don't always have ethics (and certainly not morals), and have -- and apply -- many manipulative games to stay at the top.

Could a grand scale, international hoax be pulled off for long? You tell me.

Now, if aliens actually did visit the Earth -- and make themselves known -- that could be either wonderful or horrifying based on how the aliens judged humanity. But being cynical, I expect aliens would know exactly what humanity is like prior to visiting, and IMHO would probably decide against it. Monitor? Certainly (that's potentially happening now), but contact? Why contact a primitive, devious, power-hungry species?

There is again new "weirdness going on"

obious latest findings consider aliens raised the bars a little higher again
turn out that they found 15 other stars with the same patrons like KIC 8462852

the kicker, they all are within the same cluser, in the face of "Flatness"
on top of that guess what they all the same star G type star + F

that's why nature protect it's animals for humans, imagion what adultry would have happend if animals was compatible.

personally i think people in general underestimate the profound impotence it have
even if contact would never be established.

Masters of Orion? (Ignoring the Civ 2 engine, a Civ game (4X) with aliens would qualify)
