I used to play a lot of Escape Velocity Nova back when I had a Mac. I know that they came out with a Windows version so went to check if my Mac key worked for it (this is 10 years later mind you). And what do you know, it does!

I downloaded it onto my computer and got it all started up, but the game is pretty choppy, never more than 20 fps. I've emailed Ambrosia support, but was wondering if there were any tips anyone had for making games in general run better. I've already played with the compatibility settings and no luck.

Does anyone have any other suggestions?

Thanks!

I tried installing EV: Nova on one of my Win XP machines recently, and it complained that it needed QuickTime, so I installed that and it doesn't run at all. So, I think an older version of QuickTime may work best. But at that point I lost interest and went to play something else. =\ Mind you, it ran just fine on another, better Win XP machine I had when I last played it a few years back.

BTW, I see on Twitter (that was you?) that they are not interested in a GOG release at this time. =\ At least it's still available direct from them.

haha it was me! It's too bad that they aren't interested. I think the game could collect quite a following here. I downloaded quicktime, but it version 8. Sounds like it might be better with an older version.

Worse comes to worse my wife has a MacBook Pro... I just don't think she would really like me putting a game on it lol.
Interesting! That game looks similar to Maelstrom. Was it made by the same Ambrosia Software?

That's hilarious! XD

When I was looking up Maelstrom on MobyGames I also found this. Have you ever played that game before?
