TL;DR (Too Long; Didn't Read) version: read the tips in bold, the explanation is useful but not absolutely mandatory.
I have seen many times people asking for help with the same mistakes over an over, so I decide to make a guide about how to get help so we can send people here and don't write the same things over and over. So here are the things to take into account before asking for help.
- Search before posting. Probably you are not the first one that have experimented the issue, so maybe there's a topic like the one you're about to post (or you just have posted). If there's already a topic covering the same problem read it and try the solution if any. If the topic is marked as SOLVED, go directly to the solution (which is marked as well) after reading the first post (to see if it's the same problem as yours). If the problem is not marked as solved (maybe is not even a Question topics, as many are) it's even possible that has been solved. To prevent you to read the whole topic, go directly to the last posts, if there's a solution probably is in the lasts posts. If there's no solution, post in the topic to bring attention to it. There's no need to create a separate topic.
- Make a Question topic, not a normal one. It makes it easier to find the solution for other people as it can be marked as SOLVED once it gets solved and people willing to help can view it easily too.
- Name the topic according to the problem. Naming it "I NEED HELP!" or something like that makes searching for a solution a lot harder. Use something like this instead "Heroes 3 crashes after launch on Windows 8".
- Describe the problem. Describe the circunstances that lead to the problem.
- Post the error messages if any. Normally they give us a hint about what's going wrong.
- Post your specs. In many cases the solution may differ between different machines so post them before people ask you for them.
- Be polite. Take in account that the people trying to help you is using their free time to help you, so be polite and say thank you.
Would you add anything to this list or change the way they are explained? Of course, you can copy and modify this and post in other subforums, the same tips are valid for any game.
