I've been getting inundated with friend requests lately from dozens of people and have no idea why I'm getting all of these requests. Other than a very small number of people's names whom I immediately recognize and have communicated with in the past that I am accepting, I have been declining/ignoring the rest as I'm not in the "collect as many friends as possible on every platform online" game.

I find all these requests just disruptive and don't want to see 50000 people are online and get desktop notifications for all of them playing games and stuff every 10 milliseconds. Looking through the settings in both Galaxy and the GOG website I don't see anywhere I can turn this crap off.

Is there a way to disable this entirely so that NOBODY can add me as a friend? Please just let me keep myself and my guitars company in my dark dank cave.

Alternatively can I just disable all forms of online social presence? Or disable my account entirely and turn it back on when I want to use those features?

This is getting really annoying, every day 50000 new friend requests. FFS

TLDR: GOG Galaxy has a new "add this random person" feature. Stupid GOG marketing stuff.

Try going to https://www.gog.com/account/settings/privacy and unchecking the box about people being able to find you. I haven't gotten one since I've tried that but idk how they do anything.

I've already had that checkbox unset for years, it doesn't prevent this.
I can understand the annoyance but.. if you're going to stop gaming for a while, why are you worried about notifications on Gog? When you'll login again, just click on "Clear all".
Is Galaxy necessary to you ?

You can remove all your friends which is a good "alternate" way to disable random friend requests.

It doesn't matter, if you use Galaxy. I've never even installed it and still get a lot of friend requests at the moment.

They're still less disruptive. Just a red number up there, to clean up from time to time, like the updates.

The OP seems to suffer from avalanches of galaxy-related notifications, about who gets online or plays what, etc. They sound more intrusive than what we live outside of it.
Facebook is really nice, is it not?

Do they still have "sign my wall"?

How would I know? I have never used it and cannot see that I ever will. A blog, a small website of my own, those I can imagine having and using, FB not.

One can turn off Galaxy notifications though, in the Notifications tab in the Settings window.

EDIT: Notifications are very customisable, messeges and sounds for different notifications can be enabled for desktop and/or overlay with/without sound or completely disabled.
