They may not realize that they're sitting on money here. In fact, a lot of game developers don't.

amok: I think they do realise that, but they may also realise that the cost of getting the games playable on modern machines + legal and practical work hours to get them out + maintenance and support after release may be higher than the sum of monies the sales will being in.
Hmm. I guess. It's kind of weird though, seeing certain game companies embrace the retro craze and rerelease older games with gusto, that you wouldn't normally expect to do so.

zeroxxx: I can understand where the TC coming from because I know what is his logic process. He wants something which a store does not have, therefore he doesn't give his money. It's very simple. The fact that the subsequent post (#7) bashed him for nothing simply baffled me.
Altogether possible I'm taking it out of context. For instance, giveaway to him might be gOg freebies, whereas giveaway to me is a term reserved for the games that you and i purchase here and give to others. That has been the basic usage around here since I joined so that's how I read it.

So yeah, it's a bit crappy - in my eyes - if someone freely partakes in the generosity of other members with no intention of giving back one way or another. gOg freebies, no problem. It's their marketing tool, and I've gotten my share of those.

Maybe post 1 doesn't describe the full picture. From what I read, it seems like leeching with a very narrow requirement to actually buy something here, and maybe give a little love back in the form of OP's own giveaway or active helpful form participation.

Apologies to all if I made a mistaken assumption based on differing definitions of that one word.

darkhog: If I can't legally buy it, then yes.
avatar
tinyE: But you are only killing your chances of getting it legally.

When devs come to check out GOG as a possible distributor and see people openly touting piracy in the forum, that is a red flag, and makes it very hard for GOG to get those people to offer their games here.

If you want to use abandonware sites fine, but don't talk about it in here, because you are killing the chances of those games ever coming here.

GOG gets the cold shoulder from a lot of companies because there seems to be some sort of idea that it is all pirates and hackers. Go ask about it in the Steam forums if you don't believe me. When you mention stealing you are enforcing that idea.

AGAIN, I don't care what you do, really, just might not want to talk about it in here.
What a load of bollocks. As if companies are not already aware of abandonware sites and pirates, and last I checked, anytime GOG is brought up at Steam, the Steam Reddit, or even some random 4Chan post, it's a mixture of "I love gog" and "What the fuck is gog?".

Give me proof of these companies that specifically gave GOG the cold shoulder because some rando on the forum admitted to going to Abandonia to get his copy of Test Drive 3 or some shit. lmao c'mon. That's not the issue.

Excuse me? What costs? DOSBox for Epic's DOS hits such as Epic Pinball or JJ1 (you can pretty much run JJ using default DOSBox settings), JJ2+ patch for JJ2 (I'm sure guys over jazz2online will be more than happy to give it for the official JJ2 re-release).

And for the final time, I've meant official GoG giveaways, such as recent Stronghold thing. Also today got additional 2 games via Steam connect (if I ever release game that will be good enough for GOG to be interested in it, I'll make them add it to Connect from day 1).

Again, I've quite explicitly said that I've done it in the PAST. I have no intention of doing it again until I can buy it officially on GOG and then I'll buy it, along with the rest of games that are only available on GoG or which are cheaper here to get (I use Galaxy anyway).

Leucius: OP,

Epic is a mystery. For several years, they followed CliffyB's lead (he is a developer that ran the studio for a while before moving on to mobile games) and they did not release any new pc games because CliffyB thinks all pc gamers are pirating scumbags.

Epic is still transitioning from his mindset to going back to pc gaming again. Some of their games have not been re-released yet, and this is not on GOG. GOG actively looks for games to re-release, and I'm sure they looked into this one. In this case, you'd want to contact Epic and let them know you're interested in buying Jazz Jackrabbit on GOG :)

They may not realize that they're sitting on money here. In fact, a lot of game developers don't.
I know. I've tweeted at both Cliffy and Tim Sweeney, to determine who exactly owns the rights and get them to release it on GoG, but I guess I don't have such pull like GoG has. Perhaps if Gog's own account would tweet at them?...

Even a started bloody change.org petition (as if it would do anything). But huge nope.

Ah I see. Well, it looks like you've done everything you could, to get your favorite games here. Sometimes you have to just sit back and wait.

For example, Call of Cthulhu (Bethesda) just came to GOG within the past 24 hours, and I've been waiting for it since they started releasing newer games ;)
No, only now, after creating those two threads (this one and similar in Polish section of GoG, where I had someone from GoG staff chip in and say that they're working on it), I did everything I could've possibly done (well, short of picketing Epic's HQ, but I am too lazy for that and can't afford plane ticket anyway).

Well, now I'll wait.

because off course this happens by magic, there will be no need for any support, and DOSBox works straight out of the box for all games on all systems.... Not to mention, there will be no need for any contracts, and Epic will be under no obligations at all after they released the games. This will off course cost no man-hours or resources.

Brilliant!!

You need to tell Epic about this, I bet the thought have never occurred to them, and they just don't know how easy it is. Good thing we have you to tell those silly developers how things are done.

darkhog: To convince Darkhog to buy games on GoG, you must first convince Epic to put Jazz Jackrabbit (both JJ1 CD and JJ2 TSF) on GoG. Other Epic classics (Epic Pinball, Jill of the Jungle, etc.) would be nice, but Jazz is a must.
Do some people really like Jill of the Jungle? It was an awful game already back when it was released.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F04Cl4sxy0o

I don't quite get the praise for Epic Pinball either, it was worse than other pinball games already available on GOG, like the Pinball Gold Pack and the Pro Pinball series.

With some games I feel people remember them fondly only because they are old games...

Don't know if Jill of the Jungle was bad or not, never played it, but Epic Pinball, compared to other PC games of the era is, well, Epic. It's a really good game, especially when you compare to all CGA crap made with Pinball Construction Set (sorta Pinball Maker, for DOS).

Come on.

Pinball Construction Set for PC = 1985.
Epic Pinball = late 1993 (November)
Pinball Fantasies PC version = 1994

While Epic Pinball slightly predates the PC version of Pinball Fantasies, that's the pinball game it should be compared to. To Epic Pinball's credit, its graphics and gameplay were smooth, but I found the tables far too simple.
Please, Pinball Fantasies had terrible framerate on computers of that era. On a 486 I had laying around until a few years ago, it ran worse than freaking Doom. This was a common problem with Amiga ports, just like colors "lost in translation" (even though at that time PC had better graphics than Amiga, capable of 64 colors at the same time at best, without weird hacks such as changing palette mid-screen, so there's no excuse).

Also LGR shares my opinion on the subject and that guy knows what he's saying.

//edit: Let's not derail this thread any further. If you want to talk about it, make a separate one. This one is about bringing Jazz Jackrabbit and JJ2 to GoG, other Epic classics would be just icing on the cake (and really, if epic would sell the IP to GoG themselves, there's a good chance they would want to sell the entire package due to their current disinterest towards single player games).

I owe you an apology, then.

I'm sorry for the implication that you're leeching off users. I misunderstood your use of "giveaway".

In that case, then I apologize for my first post.

I still find your idea of "I'm not going to buy anything just because a publisher won't bring two games here" utterly ridiculous, though. It's not like it's GOG's fault the games aren't here, so you can't say you're doing this as some sort of protest (or at least, if you are, it's a fairly dumb protest attacking the wrong people). Is there seriously NOTHING else on this entire store that you'd want to play?
OH CRUD!!!
https://www.jazz2online.com/news/1646/a-jazz-jackrabbit-on-gog-or-steam-or-anything-else/

If this comes to pass, I'll fullfill my promise of buying it on GoG and buying more games too. Of course, it being Epic, they may use their launcher just as well.
