Hello, this is my first post on this forum and seeing as many of you have experience with old games I thought this might be the place to ask even though it might be a bit off-topic. Anyway, a friend of mine is selling his old Gameboy SP and "a lot of GBAs" and I asked him if I could buy it, to which he said yes. He asked me what price I wanted for it and I told him i'd tell him later. I have no idea how much I should pay, but i'm not willing to pay more than 20€, any ideas? Also, how much would the GBAs cost? (I know you can get it for free with an emulator but you don't get the same feeling of nostalgia)
By the way I might take some time to answer, thanks for reading,
Istec

Price no idea,I'd just steal it:-)
which gba is it exactly ?
the original landscape one ?
the gba sp ? ( fold up clamshell )
the gba sp 101 ?
the gba micro ?

all in all dont pay more then 20 euro for a bare bones machine with an adapter

but if there are a few games with it you can go up a bit to say 35 if there are enough games with it ( 4 or 6 )
If you don't get the same feeling of nostalgia from an emulator, I've been living a lie then, as I've got Retroarch and felt nostalgia while playing Pokemon Emerald on my tablet.

The GBA units themselves are basically worthless, as you'd lose more money in the long run (batteries) and not be able to play them in poor lighting conditions. The SP itself is worthless if the charger isn't included, as it runs off a swanky Lithium Ion battery.

Here's a better question, how much time and money are you willing to spend hunting for games that are over 10 years out of print?

I think you've answered your own question. This person is your friend, so why not just be honest with them? Tell them straight up, "Hey, I thought about it and, while I really want it, I just can't see spending more than 20€. Do you think that's fair?" The worst that will happen is they will turn your offer down and you'll be no worse off than you are now. Don't stress over it.

20 euro to 25 euro for the Gameboy Advance SP and for each game, I wouldn't spend more than 5 to 10 euro. If a game is really rare and desirable, I might spend up to 15 euro for it. More than that is just ridiculous.

In order to answer the questions: Its one of the fold-up ones, and the price seems reasonable if its 20 for the Gameboy and 5 for the GBAs. Also, I wouldn't be looking for the games, he already has a large inventory and I'm guessing the charger's included. Oh, and another thing, have you tried playing platformers on a phone? It's bloody impossible with the controls. That's one of the reasons I would like to buy it.

^gba games

gba's means the consoles themselves

anyway 20 euro for an SP with charger is a decent price tag
personally id buy a ds but thats because i find the sp so damn cramped

Indeed. Touch controls are incredibly frustrating in games that need precision movement. Not to mention the lack of tactile feedback makes it for an awkward experience. At least for me it does.
I'd look it out on eBay, generally this is how you find how much is stuff worth.
hey im actually a picker which makes a living buying and selling things. I sell GBA's a lot as well as sp. The going rate on ebay for a good condition sp is usually around 25-30 US dollars, this can be increased if its a good color. they tend to sell a little faster at that price if they have a crap game or two. Most games are not worth 5$ but some can be worth that and more, it all depends on the games. Its important to remember with ebay the seller usually pays shipping as well as a good 10-15% in ebay fees, so in the end I usually only make about 20$ for the system and a crap game or two. So as for if its worth it 20 euros may be a bit much but It really depends on the color of sp and the games coming with the system.

this is the US market it may be different in Spain

I would pay $20 for a GBA SP in good working condition. The R button on mine is defective and the backlight very weak. The battery is probably dead by now too. I use my first DS with GBA port to play GBA games, and by games I mean Advance Wars.

I wish Nintendo would have kept with that small compact design instead of going to the DS.
You can always download VBA-Link, an excellent emulator, and ANY game for GBA in existence. With it, on the same PC, you can even link two games together as if you had the link cable and TWO, not one, GBA. But if you want to buy it as a piece for being a collector of sorts or something... Well. Depends on how many games he has. If he is your friend, discuss it together.
