Today I decided to close my bank account at Citibank Russia, Moscow. I realized that it cost me 3,000 RUB annually for just having my MasterCard. Two years ago this amount was nearly as much as 100 USD, now it's less than 45 USD. Nevertheless our prices went high up and our salaries remained intact. I don't know how other people are living and why we don't have open robbery acts on streets (perhaps later). Anyway that's too much for me comparing to 450 RUB per year in pro-government Sberbank.

I'm just curious what is the amount of account maintenance fee at your local bank, especially for MasterCard or Visa Classic cards.

Thank you.

Yandex physical MasterCard: 250 roubles for 3 years, 350 if you are ordering them from outside Russia. No fees if you don't want physical card.
I have a credit card with no annual fee.

I did, however, get a credit card offer where the annual fee was in the hundreds of dollars. Of course, I did not accept it.

Very interesting.
Are there any limitations? Is it possible to have RUB and USD accounts for one physical card?
Me and my wife have bank accounts with debit cards in 2 separate banks in Poland and we have no maintenenace fees. I also use separate prepaid VISA from my bank - no monthly fee too.

But my parents have an account in state-owned bank and they pay <4 EUR/monhly fee which is a robbery for me.

Really? What's your bank's name? (or can you at least send the name privately)

Now I'm sad, so my banks are very-very bad and greedy...

Got it, thanks again for the tip;)
I had account where I had to pay over 4 Euro per month just for using it so I switched to different bank last year and now I pay exactly 0,00 per month. That's also 0,00 per year.
4 euro/month
What a theft, Cadaver747!

I use a rechargeable card with no fees (transaction or annual).
I just have to pay 1 euro for each deposit, so I do it 1-2 times a year lol.
The only downside is the recharge by cash at the postal office.

I think it all boils down to competition. Years ago polish banks also charged a lot of money for almost everything (maitenance, cash machines operations, money transfer etc) and then internet-focused mBank appeared on the market with 'everything for free' policy (of course we are talking here about accounts for people and not for companies) and after some time it became a standard for the market.

So it's pure robbery. Since our banks can do *overnight* operations with clients' funds and get extra, they also want to get even more. Still no one here stated the commission higher than mine ex-Citibank ~45 USD per year. Good riddance!

I also have one such (secondary) credit card (MasterCard), with no annual fee. It was issued by Stockmann, a Finnish department store chain. They gave them out years ago, maybe it was some kind of campaign. I have no idea if they give them anymore, either in Finland or elsewhere (aren't there Stockmann department stores somewhere in Russia too?). I think in Finland Stockmann uses Nordea bank's services for the credit card.

Since I haven't used it for a long time (I have a Visa credit card also from my bank), there haven't been any charges for having it either. If I recall right, their idea to make profit was apparently that the interest rate is quite high, in case you don't pay up the credit bill within 30 days (in which case there is probably just some small surcharge, no interest rate).

As for my bank account with its own debit (MasterCard) and credit (Visa) cards, there's the couple euros per month maintenance fee, plus a couple euros per month surcharge, in case I use the credit card. And, if I don't pay the credit card bill within a month, an interest rate on top of it (but I always pay the bill as soon as I get it, in order to avoid the interest rate). So I use it almost like a debit card.
