I downloaded Beneath a Steel Sky and every time I want to play it the GOG client loads. I don't want to use the client, I just want the game to load. How do I play the game without the client?

Thanks

Simple, download the offline installer. To do this open your web account hover over your user name and select games. Find the game and then look towards the bottom for offline installers, you need to expand it. Download the exe (and possible bin files). Store the fully downloaded files in one directory. Now uninstall galaxy fully. Run the offline installer and install to c:/mygames (if it doesn’t already, or something similar, not program files). Run game from the shortcut.
Unfortunately gog push galaxy at all points, even in your library offline installers are hidden and if you use the galaxy ones it installs galaxy. Even the offline ones have galaxy components which if galaxy is installer will start it up.
Like already said, download "offline backup" files instead of those which install Galaxy.

Now, if you want to use Galaxy, but just want to play the game without Galaxy launching, you can manually start the game by finding the proper exe file in the game folder.

In the case of BASS, it's a game supported by ScummVM, so you can install your own version of ScummVM, and then point it to where ever you had Galaxy install game files. When you want to play BASS, or any other game supported by ScummVM, simply launch ScummVM instead of using any shortcuts created by GOG.

If you want to get rid of GOG altogether here, you can even legally download BASS from ScummVM website.

So you really have a good number of options to play BASS with absolutely no trace of Galaxy.

I presume you didn't have the GOG Galaxy client installed beforehand to your PC.

You possibly didn't download the offline installer for the game, but the Galaxy-client installer which installs Galaxy on your PC, and then downloads/installs the game through Galaxy.

You can uninstall the game and the Galaxy client, and then redownload the the standalone installer, which is hidden below the Galaxy installer option.

Even when you download with Galaxy, you can still play many games without the client.

The original exes are present within the game folder in program files.

In Beneath A Steel Sky's case, find where it is installed.
Mine defaults to "C:\Program Files (x86)\GOG Galaxy\Games\Beneath a Steel Sky"

Non DOSbox/ScummVM games will have an exe that you can run directly.
In your case, you should see a shortcut titled "Launch Beneath a Steel Sky".

You can run that without GOG galaxy running.

What the shortcut is doing is running the following command

"C:\Program Files (x86)\GOG Galaxy\Games\Beneath a Steel Sky\scummvm\scummvm.exe" -c "..\beneath.ini" beneath

This calls scummvm directly - no Galaxy involvement.

A consequence of this is the loss of cloud save syncing. If you ever want to back your saves up, you will need to launch through gog galaxy (and specify which save copy is definitive when it notices they are out of sync).

You can play basically every game without the client - the only exception being GWENT.

1. Not necessary to download and install again, he can just launch them from the .exe to avoid Galaxy.

2. You can download offline installers through Galaxy itself, no need to use the website.

Of course if you don’t have the client running you can copy and paste your save files as much as you want, in any way you want to, in whatever structure you like and they will be available always, without internet. You can even share them amongst other computers with a usb stick.
