My copy of Free Running arrived via amazon and it installed fine, but it doesn't work. As soon as I launch the game itself, it crashes and says that it stopped working.

I do not know what the problem is nor how to fix it. I've tried:

-Running on my built in graphics instead of my GPU

-Running in compatibility mode for Windows 7 and Windows XP (both packs)

-Running in different resolutions (didn't except that to work)

- Looked for help online such as this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-9hERley9FI&t=9s Didn't bother to follow the video's instructions because they made absolutely no sense and the "solutions" in the video don't work. (if the comments are anything to go by)

I personally think it might be Safedisc DRM but considering that I don't know if Free Running even has Safedisc, perhaps someone knows what it actually is, and can offer a solution to get the game working properly?

I have the game on PSP but I wanted the PC version too as it may be easier to control and also look nicer.

Not to mention that this is Core Design's last game before Tomb Raider: 10th Anniversary Edition got cancelled and the company shut down, so I feel I need to play it on PC too as I grew up with the PC Tomb Raider games.

Never heard of it, when was it released here? Sarcasm aside, if your on win 10 then yes safedisc doesn't work on it. You can install the drivers for it yourself. Find an nocd patch from the internet (virus check it thoroughly) and use that, should get away from drm issues. Unfortunately drm only affects actual paying customers.

And that's why I asked for links to an abandonware copy in an earlier post, so this kind of thing wouldn't happen. Any ideas where I can find a safe cracked executable?

Hey! I also got this game on the wii and on ps2!

was you able to find abandonware of the game?
I found a digital copy to buy on greenmangaming, but the DMR plataform is Playfire (old GMG plataform) ..I don't know how it works or if it stills work...and it's actually really expensive!

I actually found a German disk copy on Amazon which is meant to work in all PAL regions, but it didn't despite installing fine. I think this is because it has Safedisc DRM which Windows 10 no longer supports. For the main question, no. I didn't find an abandonware copy. That's why I posted about it because an abandonware copy may have a crack to remove the DRM so I can actually play the damn game that I paid for.

I ended up buying the greenmangaming copy, but the It got the same problems in windows 10 =/, thankfully I was able to get a refund....
I guess the best way of playing this game is in a older rig running windows xp...or stick with the console ports!
but thanks for the reply =D

I do have the PSP version which I got first, but I want to play it on PC as well. Guess we all need to pester GOG about getting a DRM free version put on here, so I can finally play the PC game.

It's kind of against the rules to post those kind of links here.
Just in case anyone is looking for a fix in big 2024: The game no longer works on Windows 11 not only due to copy protection, but also due to an issue with the socket creation code for network connection. A strange case of online functions completely breaking a game after the servers go down.

Unpacking the game's executable with UPX and changing the byte at address 0x11F710 from 83EC1C to C3EC1C skips any attempt to connect and allows the game to work again :)

Hey, I followed your advice, but when I open the exe in a hex editor (specifically ImHex) there is no such byte as 83EC1C at 0x11F710 for me..
