TARFU: As someone who is also disabled, I have wondered how many of us on GOG are disabled. Do you think a disability thread would be well received or would it turn into a flame pit and endless bickering?
I mentioned in passing in a thread once here that a fair amount of my income goes to the doctors bills and I get money under the table which brought out the nay sayers.

*shrug*

It's come up a couple of times. I forget who it was a few weeks ago but we had someone WRITING ABOUT THEIR BRAIN INJURIES IN ALL CAPS although I forget who it was and what issue they were raising.
This guy makes Legolas seem slow.
Since you're generally at range, that means you don't have to be dodging stuff... You're also going to be wearing light armor usually.

But as i recall, with AD&D attacks were 3/2 (3 every 2 rounds) and when you were higher level or got a specialty, upgraded to 2/1, or 5/3.

nightcraw1er.488: Have you seen Legolas go, he can fire off half a dozen arrows before Aragorn swings his sword :o)

drmike: I was thinking the scene where he slides down the stairwell and fires off 4-5 shots, one right after the other.

Compare that with the tomb scene which went on for quite some time where it took awhile for enemies to go down.
Indeed, shows how far off the movies are. Took a special type of person to be able to draw a longbow, even if you take into consideration advanced elves craftwork, sliding down steps letting off arrow after arrow was hilarious. Although saying that the mongols with short bows were able to loose a fair few arrows on the fly so maybe it's possible.

drmike: With a sword, you're taking into account parry and thrust and the back and forth with it.

With a bow, it's a one shot.
This, combined with the idea that Infinity Engine games - and the D&D games they're based on - look at a round as a 10-second slice of time. Hand-to-hand you're looking for an opening in a 10-second round, while with a bow you just shoot whenever.

Consider, too, that the ruleset also gives different speed ratings for different weapons within a group, so a dagger is considerably faster than a claymore even though both are poke-and-swing weapons. Which makes sense - one could slice and dice at least a few times with a dagger before managing to get a decent wind-up and swing (even against air) with a long and heavy two-hander.

Ultimately, the rules have to compromise to come up with something that approximates what a real fight would be like.

And that just shows it. Quite amazing really.

I have, on occasion, posted comments about the accessibility of video games, and quite often, they would get "low rated", so it seems many people on this site don't like such discussion for some reason.

Maybe it would be a better idea to save the disability thread for another time, then. The forum has gotten more friendly over the past few months, though. I didn't feel comfortable suggesting such a thread till now.

Downrepping of forum members seems to still be a problem. One can only hope the rep system will disappear completely.
