ashwald: Might as well ask this here: if I buy the retail version will I be stuck with Uplay on top of Steamworks?
Uplay?
I'm pretty sure the retail version is just Steamworks.
Ubisoft didn't publish the game.

Yup Retail = Steam.

They distributed the retail version (as can be seen here), which is what confused ashwald.

The only chance this would happen is if you bought a Ubisoft-owned game directly on Steam and since neither of these criteria apply to the game, the answer is no, there's no Uplay here.

Ah that makes sense.
low rated
Totally disappointed. Not in the quality itself but in the game itself.

Been a big RTS game player for many years. Original CNC was one of my favorite games when it hit the shelf. Red Alert kicked serious butt. Tib Sun and RA2 were in my collection the moment they hit the shelves. I played HW:Cataclysm the moment it was released and totally loved it.

Never bought Homeworld or HW:2. Wished I still hadn't.

Seriously???? Relic screwed up big time when making this. I mean seriously huge disappointment.

I get it, play it, and even at 49 am nearly in tears over how poor the game itself is. $30 is a total waste. Would have been more productive to have used it as toilet paper. Would have served more of a purpose than this garbage of a game.

Think about it.... they do a "Hyperdrive test" when the Fusion drives aren't online? What a crock. Anyone with half a brain would know that is recklessly foolish. A 'misjump' would strand them hopelessly.... which it does.... with no propulsion whatsoever. I can't buy into it.

And the plot only worsens from there.

Then you seek vengeance with the total remaining population of your entire species in the mothership? A broken vessel that doesn't even have a working propulsion system???? Foolish, reckless, stupid, and doomed from the beginning. One misstep.... like finding the fleet that actually destroyed all your defenses and burned the entire planet.... would mean the end of your entire peoples.

Not to mention you are completely outmatched and have really no resources to speak of.

I can't even play this. It's too foolish for me to even play. Outside any sense of rationalle or logic.

First, you don't take a half completed ship into a Hyper test. That is idiocracy at the basest level. Make it functional, then test it. That way you can fly home under standard drives if the hyper fails. That would already fix half the issue. Second, you don't seek vengeance with the remaining population of your planet onboard. That is asking for extinction. Instead you find someplace safe to hide, build a warrior Kith with advanced vessels, and launch an attack with your assault fleet keeping your civil population tucked safely away somewhere else.... not in the line of fire.

Cataclysm was amazing, with a great storyline and made sense. Enough so it could be played with a rational mind such as my own.

This is too stupid. Waste of money, time, and impossible for someone of my level of intelligence to even play. The moronic approach is appalling.

To be fair, you can't compare C&C and Read Alert, with anything else. True masterpieces and in a league of their own. If you want something symilar you should look to Grey Goo, 8-bit Armies/Invader/Hordes, or Conan Unconquered by
Petroglyph(many of the people from Westwood including Frank Klepacki).

Having said that, Homeworld while different is just as iconic. I haven't played enough of the remastered version to comment on it particularity, but the originals Homeworld 1/2/Cataclysm are also true masterpieces, though the gameplay is of course different than the C&C formula.
