The avatar feature is still bugged like in previous months, nothing changed.
They manually changed the image of their users. So it gives the impression they fixed the problem.
Changing avatar is as bugged as always, only the smaller versions of it are updated (when someone quotes you, the new avatar will appear to them).
It will never be fixed.
Edit: I was too pessimistic. Things are improving, I'm glad.
