Does anyone remeber playing Hired Guns?.I had it on the Amiga 1200 in the mid 80's and have very fond memories of it.You had to assemble a team of four out of twelve mercenaries, two of which were droids. Then you had to retrieve some nuclear warheads to avert disaster on an alien world by exploring cooperatively, there were some great weapons particularly lasers but they would be destoyed if taken into water. It was one of the first multiplayer games where you had different views and could go to different locations on the same screen that I can remember.Don't think the graphics would look very good today but placing a sentry gun and watching it take out the enemy was awesome, very Aliens like.
I never got into it I'm afraid, I'd be happily exploring with one guy only to look up and realise that another one had been taken out and a third one was under attack - trying to do 4 things at once wasn't comfy gaming fun for me!
I resepct it for being inovative and trying to do something different though...

Innovation was mostly in putting 4 views on the screen. Controlling a multi-person squad single-handed was done in two Aliens games before

At least one of them has a neat remake http://derbian.webs.com/lv-426/

Weird - I guess 'exclusive rights' didn't mean the same thing as it does now!
I had the Electric Dreams version - the Activision one looks better though
Man, You're bad at dates. ;)
I think I actually tried the game a few years ago. I must confirm that the situation demanded severe multitasking with limited control or perception over the surroundings. In other words, 'twas hard to play with four people simultaneously in first person view.
I played it to death in those times, tried to find perfect team combinations and see how fast I could run through it. those where the time, sigh....

I think my favorite combination was MC 128-7 CIM, Cheule, Desverger and Kiurcher.

Hey, uhm... It's been four years since the last post, so thread necromancy yadda yadda ;) but if anyone is interested, I actuall started development on a faithful remake of Hired Guns about two years ago, it's in development hell at the time being while I am working on other projects but I hope that I will get back to it one day as HG was alwas one of my favourite games!

Here is the development thread, it chronicles two seperate attempts at a remake (both with multiple playable browser versions):

Edit: My team of choice was also CIM, Cim-Lite, Cheule and Kiurcher (formerly Desverger but I found out he's kind of a dick after reading the background story included with in the game box).
