Doom 4 started development in 2008, but has been restarted atleast once since. Last time was in 2012 AFAIK.

I really disliked the direction Doom3 took, so I'm not really excited about this.
I assume this will use the same engine as Wolfenstein, which isn't bad.

I actually enjoyed DOOM III : p Not sure about BFG, but original release was good enough for me.

It wasn't Quake 4 but it was very very nice.

Yep, I really enjoyed Keycard/PDA Hunter Simulator 2010 myself. No really, I did. The buildup to things going all to hell was great, as were most of the first three or four levels. I think it kinda stalled halfway through but I loved the buildup in the last level, even if the final encounter itself was hilariously easy.

I'd say both were very close to each other. Got more bored with Q4 though.. It's not a secret D3 was far away from perfect ; )
