I was trying to close a window in Firefox, and accidentally clicked to download a .exe file.
When I opened the folder to see what I downloaded the file disappeared before I could click on it with the cursor.
My antivirus (I'm using Avira) didn't detect anything wrong, but I'm still worried that something horrible is going to happen at any minute. :/
If anyone has any advice, I would be grateful.

If you didn't execute, run, the exe you should be ok. Check Firefox download history, nuke file from there.

Edit to add: Delete the file, not just remove from Firefox history.

I didn't run the program. So, I'm safe?
Any idea why the file just disappeared?
I can't delete, because Windows couldn't locate the file.

You should be if you didn't run it.

It should not have disappeared, which is why I directed you to use Firefox to delete it, as it knows where it put it.

If you know the name, do a Windows Search for it, if you use Windows, then delete it.

Are you really sure that the antivirus didn't automatically block the download or quarantine the file?
Check the reports maybe.

Also, you didn't select some download&open option, did you?

I'm glad you solved it, but you gave me credit where not deserved.

It was phaolo that suggested the av might have blocked it, which it did. I had not yet gotten to that point.

Edit to add: We'll see if I can make this right.
