I purchased Starbound through GOG initially, but now realize I can't play online with friends unless playing through LAN, which isn't an option.

I repurchased Starbound on Steam, but don't want to lose my 48+ hour save file from the GOG Starbound.

I'm looking to for the easiest answer of where the save file from the GOG folder is, and what to copy and where to paste it in the Steam version of the game folder.

I'm on MAC OS too.

I hope this is possible!

Thanks!

Have you tried running Starbound to see if your saves are present?
Try asking though the Starbound Dscord.

In the game files, you can see a storage folder that is the save.
Config is the config file, World saves in the universe folder, character and ship files in the player folder.

Btw you can play with your friends (gog/steam crossplay is available). You need to give them your IP if your are the host, or join to their IP if they are. Or join to the same server.
Or you can use discord, and send discord invites.
Or you can use hamachi.

Let's see if I can get the url to work:

I wonder what happened to the much touted GOG/Steam crossplay. None of the games lately seem to have it.

Crossplay is easy enough, but how many users do you know to figure out how to LAN? :p

Ancestor's Legacy seems to have it though

Not everybody wants to hassle with hamachi and co.

Perhaps it's too time-consuming to implement for what is usually a small r.o.i., sadly? (GOG userbase being so much smaller than Steam)

If I were in GOG's stead, I'd offer a wrapper using the Steam API and the game would just call through that. I'm pretty sure it's technically possible. Though since Google vs Oracle it might not be legal to do so anymore :/

The game has crossplay and it works. I played it.

Hmm, then why did the OP repurchase it?

Ports were blocked, they didn't make a dedicated server, he has no idea how to join without steam invite, he can't join because the host has mods, it doesn't work on MAC.

My guess is one from these. But no idea, ask him.

It works, I tested it.... We played 50 hours with my friends.
