It's a martial arts-cum-fantasy movie, that I stumbled upon a couple of times on Italian television, at night, years ago. It's not recent, far from it - it could be from the 70s or so (but I'm not sure about this). Likely from Hong Kong, but I don't know.
It takes place in medieval China, or Japan (?). There are two "good" guys: one fights with blades that come out of his shoes, and attach to his forearms (really), the other with what I think is called a "san jie gun", or "sansetsukon", a three-section staff. In a scene, they pose as innkeepers to lure the enemies into a trap; one of those enemies fights with a ring-shaped weapon. The final fight takes place inside a cave, IIRC; the boss is your typical elderly kung-fu master, and he fights with a pair of giant iron claws (think of "Terror Claws Skeletor" :) ), plus he can use his ponytail as a deadly weapon :)
Somehow, I think GOG forum is the right place to ask...

Your description definitely rings a bell...sounds like something from the Shaw Brothers...
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shaw_Brothers_Studio

Maybe you will be able to find your movie here:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Shaw_Brothers_films

Maybe also have a look at "New One-Armed Swordsman"...it features a baddy (!) with the three-sectioned-staff, but it also has one (one-armed) good guy working in an inn and another good guy helping him.
And there is a fight in the inn. But probably that's not your movie. It doesn't have a cave, nor an old master with giant claws in it.

And there is another one "Ching - the secret of the black (bloodied) sword" (also: "(The) Darkest Sword", that features a good guy with blades in his leg-stumps.
But again - most probably not your movie.

Your best(?) way of finding your movie would be to search the list of the SB movies.
I've found it! It's

"The Avenging Eagle" (Leng xue shi san ying)

indeed a Hong Kong movie of 1978 produced by the Shaw Brothers Studio.
Thank you very much for your reply. After a quick glance at some of the movies on that list (those with the fanciest titles), seeing how many there were, I was about to give up in despair, when I stumbled upon a face on a poster that reminded me of the main guy (you know, the typical, young and handsome hero). Well, I was right, because that guy was Alexander Fu Sheng and perusing his filmography I found what I was looking for.

Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Avenging_Eagle
IMDB: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0077868/ (Seems to be popular. 7.5 score. Not bad!)

and here's the trailer for your viewing pleasure: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=__NFC1JXk3Q
(alas, no footage of that final fight with the old master!)

PS
Just for laughs: the title they gave it in Italy is "Gli implacabili colossi del karate"!! :)

Congrats!
The Shaw Brothers are always a good source and "a pretty safe bet" when one searches for old MA movies.

You're welcome.
Yeah, the list of their movies is long and can be quite intimidating, but as you said yourself: sometimes we remember a fragment of the title, or a certain actor, etc.,...and then we can search on from that point.

Trust me: I've been there, done that. ;)

Yeah, the international titles are often cause for laughter.

Example: "The Avenging Eagle" would be "Der rächende Adler" in German, but the actual German title is "Der Schrei des gelben Adlers", which translated back into English would be "The Cry of the yellow Eagle". XD
