Hey guys--

Just got the Heart of China game (saw on homepage that the graphics were remastered?) So the graphics don't look better than the old version (and I can't seem to run it with ScummVM and pick MT32 emulation.)

Are the graphics really better? And can I get General MIDI or MT32 Emulation to work verses old Adlib sound?

Thanks. This game is FANTASTIC! I remember it from my childhood. :)
Learn to read. Nowhere does it say remastered, it says "restored".
And ScummVM never supported this game, ever. So why do you think that would work?

MT32 emulation works IF and only if the game supports it, you run it with DOSBox, and you own the MT32 ROM files.
I thought Heart of China actually had CD music, but maybe I'm wrong.

No, it was purely a floppy-based game, appeared in 1991. It had Adlib and Roland MT-32 music/sound support.

Graphics are the same as in the original, as this game is running in a DOSBox emulator.

The game didn't support General MIDI (the game is from 1991, and General MIDI started to appear in PC games around 1993 or so, maybe already in 1992 in a few games like Dune 2). It supports Adlib (meaning also Soundblaster, but no sampled sound effects) and Roland MT-32.

To get the Roland support to work, you can e.g. install a Munt emulator on your PC, set the dosbox config to use the Munt emulator as your MIDI device, and set the game setup to use Roland MT-32 for audio.

You have to get the Roland ROMs from "somewhere", Munt needs them. If I recall right, with this particular game Roland MT-32 ROMs are preferred over CM-32L ROMs (with some other games it is vice versa, like Ultima Underworld). With CM-32L ROMs the game will still sound good, but e.g. some sound effects are wrong, like cow moos. So to get the best experience, use Munt with Roland MT-32 ROMs with this game.
