alexandros050: Well you see gog is the easy target these days...same thing with some twitter posts 1-2 years ago...thing is steam and lord gaben are good polish gog is bad....When Gog shuts down I think all of them will be happy.
It's self inflicted. They got to where they are by selling an image and making a lot of promises. They built up a devoted fan base that actively worked to increase their numbers and advertise gog because of their anti establishment image, selling themselves as the plucky little underdog fighting for gamers rights.... Then they gradually ripped away one after another as they didn't suit them anymore and became more and more corporate and distant from the early fan base that helped cement their foundations and grow them into what they are today.

The anger and hate is justified because that's the level of passion they stirred up in us old timers that got us onboard. We were utterly devoted but our religion turned out to be a cult selling a lie to get our money *waits to hear from Tom Cruise's lawyer).

Apologists can try and defend gog all they like but it is 100% deserved and 100% self inflicted.

(in the early days many of us bought and gifted people games on gog just to get them on here, it was a big movement, not just a couple of users.)

Dalthnock: What if someone I know in real life learns of my user name, and opens up my profile to see I've wasted YEARS playing video games? I don't want that.
You are safe. Time showed by any of the stores' clients does not reflect the real in-game time.

Many nights and afternoons game was idling and I was on something else, over 2/3rds of the time records are stretched to the limits.

ah...and I did clear my wishlist from 6houndred to 0....and back to 200... and must say it is a good idea to refresh it for any reason

StingingVelvet: GOG has made questionable decisions lately but they'd have to do a LOT worse to lose their place as my preferred store, considering no one else offers DRM free executables on everything or fixes old games themselves at all. Those are the reasons I came to GOG, and they're still GOG "exclusives" today.
Couldn't agree more. I think, we (the users) are so upset, that we try too hard to punish the wrong side. It´s not Gog that needs a lesson taught, but the other side.
I just bought 50% of my Wishlist. Next year, I'll get the other half.
For me GoG always promised just a few points.

1. You can get old games here that run on new systems and we will take care they will run in the future.
check
2. You can download offline installers and use them wherever and whenever you want without anybody (even us) knowing.
check
3. We won't prope your guts (except you want us to do so) and we won't gather any data what and when you play a game (except you want us to).
check.

And because all those Steam babys we got the launcher for collecting data (you don't have to use). Important here, GoG does not try to prope your guts without your knowledge. Game engine companies are a different story. For not being observed by several game engines you do need firewall for outgoing connection these days. Not GoGs fault though.

And now we got tears about some unimportant visual items in Cyperpunk (somehow you need to be a check if you own the games they belong to - seems to go over many heads...), working together with other companies or not releasing a game.
While the last one wasn't a smart move, it does not interfere with the points why I am here. And I won't get this points anywhere else.

But the most hilarious part about this are the people who now want to run at Steam. The company that does everything you don't like about GoG x10.
Smart move, smart move...

Don't fool yourself, GOG's main adversary will always be piracy. I don't intend to go back to my old ways, but really, Steam and Epic will get no love from me if I decide to stop supporting this site.

I have way more games than I could possibly play for the rest of my life - I also buy games to support the ideas behind it (otherwise, I wouldn't have over 600 games here) and the overall project.

If enough people that are disillusioned (like me) have similar buying habits then GOG may end up losing way more money than they are calculating.
Yeah, I erased my wish list completely today. Whether or not I ever buy anything here again depends on if GOG ever gives me my money back on Cyberpunk 2077. Until then, I've got my alternatives lined up and GOG isn't the only DRM free distributor out there; Bot Vice (and the rest of Dynagames) is available and DRM free on itchio, as is Celeste, Bleed 2, etc. Rance series on Manga Gamer, and many games on Steam itself. 99% of my game library here on GOG is available on Steam besides a few NEO GEO games and their are other means to back those games up legally (hell they play better too tbh); I actually double dipped on a few faves I had on Steam like Fight'N Rage, Furi, and One Step From Eden even though Steam supports some of these DRM free already.

GOG's DRM hype is just about all it has these days when comparing a major storefront like Steam.

- Steam's library beat's the brakes off GOG as most of my favorite game devs/publishers are there, especially as someone that came from console gaming. The DRM in most games give devs a sense of security even if it gets cracked...In all honesty, if DRM ever stopped a game I paid money for from working I'd remove it for offline based games (understandable for MMOs/online only games to go down, but not single-player).

- Fighting games are one of my favorite genres/huge for me and they've actually got a lot of fighting games to play with others on Steam.

- Denuvo eventually gets removed in most games one way or another

- Also, unlike GOG, I can keep my prices locked with my home country when traveling/living abroad and never worry about games locked out of my home country or absurd prices. I'm an expat and I really appreciate this feature. GOG used to have a feature that mitigated this with regional pricing, but scrapped it.

- A great overlay that provides a console like experience + input support for way more controller types

- cards that double as free wallpapers and stuff you can sell on the marketplace which eventually ends up being enough to buy some DLCs.

- Way better refund policy/customer support. Responses from Steam even in a pandemic is lightyears faster than GOG. While that 30 day window might look appealing on GOG, that's all it is honestly in comparison to refund policies on other storefronts. 2 hrs/2weeks is more than enough to get a decent feel of whether you're enjoying something or not, having errors etc., unless you like to let your game idle/have other things going on.

- The foreign transaction fees are thing for many user

I can go on and on. Despite all of that, I've still used GOG for games every now and then to support DRM free gaming, but their actions lately have pissed me off so I'm ranting. GOG is the largest DRM free store front out there and you know this when you see Horizon Zero Dawn (and many other big games) here and not on itchio lol.

Being completely DRM free means you keep everything you've downloaded if you get banned, it means you can play your game with your save and everything on another PC at cafes, a friend's place, etc., (obviously not distributing the game to not breach any agreements). It also means you can avoid Denuvo performance hits without waiting for official or unofficial means to remove it (though Denuvo has never hit hard enough for me to ever notice in any game, tests are out there to show the differences).

*Sigh* I need some space GOG/rant over.
I'm going to erase my wishlist!
And then add all games I still want back to it.
But maybe it's all a waste of time... what do you people think about it? Should I start a topic about it too? Shit, I've just wasted more time by posting this!! Oh well.

I've removed that from my wishlist, it wastes 1/3 of my total time.
