Half-Life: Absolute Zero is fan made re imagination of the first Half-Life game based on it original concepts ideas, darker plot, more horror elements and added a lot of the originally cut content back in. Its free so worth a look with no financial risk.

"What is the current state of the beta version?
Right now, the current active development build is not playable from start to finish. We plan on pushing out regular updates,..."

It sure looks promising.

But is it worth the risk of wasting my time? The internet is full of free games - who wants to try them all just because there's no "financial risk" involved?
I liked Half-Life in '99, and yet even Black Mesa isn't high on my to-play list. It was an interesting shooter/adventure crossover in its time, but nowadays it's too much shooter for me.
From what I've seen, Black Mesa added even more platforming elements - something I really hate in FPP games.

Unrelated / Off-Topic: "fan made" doesn't mean that it's bad - but I've watched a few fan made Star Trek episodes... horrible!! (even the Tim Russ movie)

After Valve greenlit that Hunt Down The Freeman game, it's hard to take any HL fan made project seriously.

No immediate financial risk. I am not willing to voluntarily provide my personal information to a company like Steam.
