30 additional cards, social features, and more

Hey, cardslingers!

A new update update for GWENT: The Witcher Card Gamee is now available on PC, Xbox One and PS4.

With this update, the main focus is to make gold cards more interactive and introduce friend matches on consoles. The update also adds 30 new cards, social features, in-game news and notification system to the PC version, and numerous gameplay changes.

The following cards are affected and will have increased milling value for 3 days following the release of this patch:

Abaya
Aretuza Adept
Bekker's Twisted Mirror
Blue Stripes Scout
Cantarella
Caranthir
Celaeno Harpy
Clan An Craite Raider
Dandelion
Elven Mercenary
Frightener
Full Moon Potion (prev. Immunity Boost)
Ge'els
Kaedweni Sergeant
Kambi
Letho of Gulet
Madman Lugos
Reaver Hunter
Reinforcements
Skellige Storm
Wild Hunt Hound

When milled, these cards will create an amount of scraps and meteorite powder equal to the amount of scraps and meteorite powder needed to craft a card of the same value.
For the full list of changes, check here.

I still don't like this gold immunity patch, but I have to admit, that makes the game more complex. However needs to be balanced, for ex. damage on gold cards can be halfed, Tibor is still to powerfull (I tought 12 strength without card reveal would be ok), the Coehorn - Letho pair can won any round, with Morenn's ambush attack golden cards can be destroyed before they ability resolves, it's possible to destroy a gold card in someone's hand if revealed.
What also has to be balanced is the NR, the faction with Shani, Stennis, Trollolo and the heavy cavalry is really OP, but the machine-damage based deck is OP with so many crewman cards, and with a bronze card, a witch hunter you can get 18 points (plus reset benefit), if there is any mage on the board. I found Nilfgard's infiltrator also too powerfull for a bronze card (I use it when play with the Nilfgard deck), my opinion is, that as silver card would be ok.

a może jakieś szczegóły?
u mnie działa jak należy.

I’ve waited a long time to post this review and even took a break from Gwent in order to make sure that my initial strong reaction was not an overreaction. However, upon playing again after an extended break, I am convinced that it was not.

Before the update, Gwent was a very modern take on a classical trick-taking game, albeit with very large and complex tricks. If one is ahead, then one takes the trick with the least expense possible. If one is behind, then one either mucks the trick or attempts to finesse the opponent, forcing him to play out of order to regain the advantage.

After the update, Gwent has morphed into a point-accumulating game. The emphasis is no longer on waiting until the very end to set up a complex trick, or on utilizing complex effect interactions to affect substantial change to the trick (board). Gameplay is linearized, and matches and rounds are most likely closer on average than they were before the update. This is probably not an accident on the part of the developers, it makes a lot of sense for a game that is intended to be a spectator e-sport.

Neither of these approaches is inherently right or wrong as both have their place. However, for players who came to the game in its first iteration, the update will likely be very unsatisfying. It certainly has been for me. Gwent will probably gain as many players as it loses from this fundamental shift in gameplay, but it will cost the game established players, especially former beta testers. This is unfortunate because I think the same goals could have been achieved in a manner that did not sacrifice the experienced player base, in a more subtle way that kept the original spirit of the game alive.
Watching pros and playing for myself, I think gold immunity is just fine. You do need to get rid or rework cards such as Necromancy or Shiru.
I also stepped back and waited a bit to see if things get better. I am still a Monster Player. I loose all Games. No Idea how to switch Strategy. Game is dead to me.

You speak my words.
I am one of the first closed beta tester and I used to LOVE this game, as much as I LOVE TW... until the open beta and the recent updates. After some months, I can recognise Gwent no more.
As you say, this is not necessarly a bad thing but for sure this in no long the game I used to play and enjoy.

Absolutely same here.
Monster deck is complete and utter rubish. PLayer of ANY other deck with half of your level can beat you without problem.
But if that ain't enough, they don't even hide it no more.
F.E - I played several games today, level 38, rank 18, and players that are thrown to me are level 50 to 60, with bigger rank that me - always.
Even a draw is a win for me in most cases.

Thank you for very "balanced" game, gwent "afficionados".

Two of my friend uninstalled allready, they couldn't take injustice no more, third one of them that played monsters yesterday changed and sold all of his cards and start playing only Northern realms. He made an Invincible deck.

From level 5 he got to level 18 in 8 hours - yesterday, from 9 PM till 4 AM, he has 30 something cags to open.

In that 8 hours he lost 2 games, and he never played Norther deck before.

If no one believes me, I can send you his nick.

This game is going down very quickly.
