SilentMRG:
Yo, old man, wake up. Patches and mods are fine, but taking entirety of someone else's work and putting it into your shiny new dust cover is neither fair use nor fan fiction.
avatar
Sachys: Mate you dont understand fair use and as far as I remember it does not exist in Brazil (or most places outside of the USA).
avatar
SilentMRG: In other places I don't know. Now if you knew my country you would know that Fair Use here or anything else related to "copyright" simply doesn't matter, especially when it comes to games.

What I want to say is that here in my country it is not a crime to download games (even if they are new releases) and distribute them, in this case, I am talking about piracy itself, it is not a crime to sell copies of games here, even if it is a zero-day release.
you should not use the term "fair use". First of all, technicaly speaking, what most people think of as the "fair use doctrine" is USA only, other contries have different names for it and differnt laws. For example here in the UK it is actually called "Fair Dealings", and it is a litle more restrictive than "Fair Use". In for example Japan, they hardly have any fair use at all, the copyright laws there are very restictive.

Secondly, "Fair Use" in any shape or form do not apply to something like this at all. Fair Use is restrictive, and the purpose is to be able to have limited use of copyright material without haveing to get the license holders approval. Fair Use applies to "commentary, search engines, criticism, parody, news reporting, research, and scholarship". This is none of those, so invoking "Fair Use" just is not correct

Sachys: I've checked. Brazil is signed to the Berne convention, has no fair use / fair play and there is no right to reproduce works without permission.
Your authorities may be crap at enforcing it, but even in your country you are breaching copyright and talking a load of carpet shavings.|
Maybe stop with the "whataboutery" now. You know you are in the wrong. Being from Brazil doesnt extend your imagined rights to the rest of the world - nor uploading pirated works to the internet. Maybe sit down, think about that.
avatar
SilentMRG: I'm already sitting down, so there's no way I can sit down again. I won't think about it. And I'm not the type of person who gets tied up in bureaucracies, treaties, contracts or whatever the hell created by idiots bigwigs who care little about preservation. You say piracy constantly, but that's in your opinion, my son. There is no piracy in a fan work, taking into account that there are no financial gains and no other type of gain other than preservation! Piracy is illegal trade, money itself and other types of illicit financial gain, just in short. Ah, my dear, I think you forgot about the "No-CD" that Rockstar used in some of their old games, didn't you? If it weren't for the preservation scene, Rockstar wouldn't bother removing its own DRM.

Hypocrisies... This is what we have everywhere, but most people pretend not to see it. Golden tip: Don't waste your time playing lawyer/prosecutor/judge, not even those who work with it care, and for good reason. Get out of your cave and go get some fresh air! XD
Oh FFS. I'd say something more here but it would likely get me permabanned.
For those interested, I discovered a mod from the same author of the patch that I mentioned in a post much higher up, here it is: https://github.com/gennariarmando/gta2-radar?tab=readme-ov-file

This adds a radar in GTA 2. ^^

And this mod adds support for Gamepads (XInput): https://github.com/gennariarmando/gta2-ginput
\o/ Note: Well, it seems like there isn't a launch for the latter, anyway, here's a tip! ;)

Imagine someone stealing your car.
And while you are still shouting and crying, the "thief" says:

"Relax bro! It's Fair Use."
Don't believe me?
Hear my arguments why taking your car is perfectly okay:

1. I'm not doing it for the money, just for fun
2. The car seemed abandoned
3. This specific type of car isn't made or sold anymore
4. Neither the car maker nor the police seem interested in pursuing this
5. This type of car was once given away "free" in a lottery --- which means they all are free now
6. In the country where I'm from, taking other people's cars isn't illegal (because everything belongs to everyone!)
7. The property laws are stupid! And they shouldn't apply to a 20 year old car!
8. I'm not interested in concepts like ownership, contracts, bureaucracy --- so neither should you be
9. What about drug dealers? They are the evil of the century.
10. Taking the car away from you is a kind of "preservation" as you would certainly damage and destroy it otherwise.

3 pages in and it provides a little entertainment ;)

SilentMRG: blah blah blah
All you wrote was a bunch of self-justifying twaddle. None of it is actually true. What "fair use" means is things like quoting a paragraph of a book in a book review, or showing a brief clip of a movie in a movie review, without having to ask permission. That's all. You don't seem like the type who's capable of any introspection so no doubt you will ignore this, the same way you ignore everything that's not convenient to what you want.

It is both entertaining and a bit sad. Yeah, the irony is that this really IS a game store founded on preserving games.

People, we're talking about a 30 year old game here. Relax or you're soon getting a stroke. :D

sanscript: a 30 year old game here
26, 27 this year. GTA(1) was released in 1997 (and played best on 3dfx cards with Gravis Ultrasound - probably)
What does a Gravis Ultrasound do better than a Soundblaster?

GOURANGA
I suggest this reading for all golden knights defending "copyright": https://www.kotaku.com.au/2023/12/why-the-hell-is-it-so-hard-to-find-gta-1-and-2-online-now/

So, handsome guys, what did you think? ;)
I just paid $50k to save my soul! Hallelujah! \o/

gouranga > rsjabber for all of us! XD

Honestly? I don't know who you directed the offense towards... But be aware that offending people on the GOG forum is in no way welcomed by moderation. In fact, this is part of the rules.

So is promoting piracy and linking to pirated games.
Besides, I made a factual statement.

Edit: Bye bye!
