devina4: I have dealt with games like this before where you have to do stupid funky tricks. Not going to deal with it again
timppu: Yeah that's PC gaming for you, in general. Shit can happen, just like that.
Have you considered switching to consoles instead, so that everything works out of the box without any tinkering whatsoever? My kids are playing Minecraft on Nintendo Switch, no issues whatsoever, other than sometimes they start arguing while playing and then the joypads fly and then there is lots of crying and shouting.
It's awful I say, awful. Never become a console gamer, it will destroy your sanity and your life.
Ruvika: I don't think so, if you do care then you will try to fix you computer instead of blame a perfectly working game.
timppu: Well, to be fair, I recall at least the first Gothic (also the GOG version) to be a bit finicky to run. I think I had to tinker a bit to get the offline-installer version to work, even on my Windows 7 PC, I think.
I just take that as the nature of the beast, PC gaming in general is like that. You never know. Sure GOG can try to ease the tinkering, but they can't do everything. They are not GODS. They are GOGS. Two totally separate things.
Yeah, Gothic 1 and 2 are OLD games. Those always ain't going to agree w/ say DX10/11/12, newer OS's, newer hardware, etc.
It's the nature of the beast here, for better and/or for worse.
And if GOG ain't fixed it entirely, that's what mods are for and also any sort of DirectX wrappers...or any other API wrappers, for that matter. And in PC Gaming Wiki, Steam Guides, and on the GOG Forums for these specific games - I'm guessing there's Files, Instructions, Guides and/or ways to get it going.
