In game version 1.08J or 1.08K, if you hit pc key s or b and type marvin really fast and hit s or b again, upper left of screen shows console activated. F2 opens the console. You have to be very careful because the typematic rate is too fast.

It would be quite helpful if there was an easier way instead of trying several times until the typing of marvin was just right. Any Ideas?

...

I'm running W10 64 Bit. The game occasionally will not start, it returns an error, something to do with cache. I know about some fix files to make it run on modern computers but maybe I don't need those. Every time it doesn't start, there's an extra dll32 in the task manager for Gothic 1. I have to discontinue those before luckily the game starts. I had that same problem on W7 64 bit. I don't see it as critical but I do wonder.

Even downloaded 1.08k patch and tried running it. Message said basically "NO" ?

Found out, since I'm running the GOG version of Gothic 1, I downloaded and installed the G1 classic systempack 1.6
now the game starts every time and the typing rate is slower so it's more easy typing in cheats or typing in a saved game name. Also, you don't have to type marvin nearly as fast. Plus the game loads more quickly.

If you do not have the GOG version of G1 and it's not the latest patched version, you first have to download and install the Gothic 1 Playerkit 1.08k, then install the G1 classic systempack 1.6

You need it even for not modern computers (WinXP SP3 compatible), because it fixes bugs, like MCP does for Morrowind.
There lot of problems in vanilla Gothic 1 with memory leak.

By the way, latest version of systempack is 1.8, I believe.

Keith_I2: .
It's been a long time since I played G1 and this may not be helpful to your situation, but IIRC you could open the character sheet and type the marvin thing there.

I tried the latest systempack and it was ok, except the game screen had a border around it with an X and small square at the top right as if it was a minimized screen. Very distracting.

.....

By the way, the system pack would not install until after I installed the downloadable 1.08k upgrade, even though the GOG Gothic 1 game already has it. What I think is the 1.08k upgrade was redone and is paired with the 1.8 system pack. So you can't have one without the other!
........

Actually the border and smaller screen around the game was because I had set resolution too low. My monitor is 1920-1080 hdmi and the game recognizes it and gives full screen borderless.
