I would like to go back and play Gothic so I bought the game again and I keep getting access violation whenever I try and start a new game is there any way around this. I looked around a little bit on the internet but everything I could find was in German so I couldn't understand any of it.
You'll have better luck finding help in the game forums. Good luck. :)

Installing the Gothic ¹/² System Pack is kinda essential. For the record I can play it fine, modded and what not on W10 without issues.

There is some information missing: what operating system are you using? What kind of computer? Did the installation work fine? What patches did you install? Did you install any mods?

For what it's worth, I have this problem with Gothic 1&2 although the latter two games run fine. Just crashes on start, no errors. I noticed it while beta testing so wasn't actually planning on playing the game at the time so I didn't dig deeper. Might be a solution in the forums, or on GOG's support pages for the game, or contact support directly. I did have Gothic 1 run on an older PC running XP once a few years back, but this one has W7/x64 on it.

That is really strange and must be something system specific. Because I can run both Gothic 1 and 2 without any problems under Win7 (64bit) and even under Windows 10.

Yeah, I never looked into it much as I wasn't actually installing to play the game, just to do some Galaxy client testing with it. I've encountered a handful of games that way that just do not work at all. Gothic 1&2, Neverwinter Nights spring to mind although NWN got working after renaming the executable by adding some extra characters (randomly) to the filename. Might be a similar plight for Gothic games perhaps, not sure.
Gothic 1's Minimum system requirements - Windows: Windows XP or Windows Vista

Doesn't even list newer OSs as being supported although Gothic 2 does and I had the same problem with it.

I'm using Win7 Pro 64 bit. I installed the Player Kit, System Pack, Freddy's World patch, high resolution font, and (I believe) ThielHaters Texture pack as well as the FPS limit remover. Game worked fine for me, so maybe look into some of these (at the very least, the System pack) if you get around to trying it again.
