Sit down and listen kiddos, uncle Catpower is gonna tell you a story about long forgotten ages when people still played on 486 and early Pentium processors.... (yeah, I'm bored while waiting home for a delivery)

The program FL Studio (previously known as Fruity Loops) is famous and used worldwide by many computer musicians/composers but before being a major player in the DAW business, the company Image Line was into videogames.

Back in early 90's, when games where still on floppy disks, it was common to exchange game copies in the schoolyard and of course one that got copied heavily due to its forbidden nature was Porntris. You don't have to be Einstein to understand that it's a Tetris clone smashed with pictures of pretty ladies in the background. The catch is that for each line you clear, you reveal a portion of an animated porn gif so yeah, that's better motivation than reaching some dumb highscores :o) With nowadays technology, you can play it online on archive.org, you just have to click the image, then you know the rest...

Later on, they stroke a deal with the adult publisher "Private" (magazines and cd-roms) and released a few titles which amongst them was "Private Investigator" which has some Tex Murphy vibe with its 3D detective office and FMV sequences. But the main gameplay is classical 2D sideshooter where you can kill grannies in wheelchairs and fuck women right in the middle of action (you can even select your position). Hatred is tamed compared to it :o)
Luckily, there is a full gameplay video available on youtube to remember those good times:

In 1998, they released "Eat This" which plays more or less like the classic "Abuse" but in a different settings. Compared to Abuse, there are some gameplay variations like the battle drone (check the annotations in the videos for that). As they own all the rights for this game, a demo is still available on their website with even some instructions on how to run it on modern computers:

If you just wanna see the original developer (now working fulltime on FL Studio and making some VST presets) play the game, you can check this great series of videos:

After this their business caught up with Fruity Loops so they stopped making videogames (except a VG version of the Flemish tv quizz "Blokken") but who knows maybe one day they will come back to show the world we're the greatest nation ^o^

PS: If you're wondering what's the reference to LEDWars in the intro of Eat This, check Larian's website:

:Sits down and listens:
Good thread. Never heard of these, which is surprising being a collector. Do you know of anywhere to legally obtain any of the software, could find no mention on the usual ebay, amazon.

For Porntris and the Private games, they were mainly available through mailorder ads in magazines or pirated copies so as they were never sold in regular computer shops, it will be much harder to find a legit boxed copy.

For Eat This, the game went unnoticed and I think copies are lost. But if you contact the dev through his youtube page (the playthrough I linked to), he might help you.
You're the first person I see mentioning Abuse here, it's one of the few platformers I ever liked. Just recently started to play it again. The game is available for free here:

Read here for info about the rights:

PS: it runs perfectly fine with DosBox, no need to use Desura client or anything else.

awalterj: You're the first person I see mentioning Abuse here,
I'm pretty surprised you say this because Abuse was very known appreciated back in the days. Like Doom 1 most people were happy with just the demo and kept playing it. I guess that the fact that it went freeware is maybe why people don't shout about it here (for its inclusion in the catalogue). I even think I still have the full version on an old DOS pirate cd :)
Awesome! Never before had I managed to play Tetris so well. I guess it's all about motivation. :D
No comments about Private Investigator. :P
