Cavalary: All I know is what it says on those threads, I've just been waiting for 2.0 ever since I got it otherwise. Lin545 was saying 19 hours there, but from what I gather from tknp's post it's the end of act 1, and How Long to Beat lists 19h as the average time for the whole game (from very little data though). There is this bit though, "If you want to get by this section yourself you can load the save game in windows or have a friend do it, then go through to act 2 and transfer the save back to linux. The save files seem to be compatible between the platforms.", if you have a Win install (or VM?) you can use.
Thank you for doing all the legwork for me there! I hadn't yet had time to follow the links and read up myself.
I do have a windows VM available, so that sounds like an acceptable workaround if I reach that point before 2.0 is finalized.
Hey, I just wanted to add an extra vote to Lifthrasil's recommendation: The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant the Unbeliever
Those are, along with any Tolkien book (Enebias is right, he's just the boss) and the Elric of Melnibone novels, by Michael Moorcock, my favourite fantasy books of all times. The First Chronicles are though to read at times, but are indeed very good, The Second Chronicles are just amazing, and I just noticed The Last Chronicles were recently published, so now I have something pending to read.

As for The Witcher series, I liked the first three books (that twist on the old tales is really original) but the following books failed to keep my interest.

First 3 as in Blood of Elves, Time of Contempt and Baptism of Fire, or you include the short story ones in the count? If those 3, yeah, series just grows and gets better all along in them. Tower of the Swallow was a notch lower. Have Lady of the Lake here and don't dare read it yet, don't want to finish it with a bitter taste, and referring even to just that I know how it ends, other issues would just add to it.

I was counting the short stories books, The Last Wish and Sword of Destiny. Some day I might retry reading the rest...

Oh, so just BoE out of the "proper" series? Really was impressed with the next two myself. And not much with the short stories since I don't care much for those in general. Last two stories in Sword were good though.
Different tastes I guess :)

Personally, I think that LotL ending is one of the best endings that can possibly be. I even regret a bit that Witcher games somewhat distorted it.

I hope so. I am intending to read those for a while now. Especially after I've heard rumors that Geralt was invisioned by Sapkowski as an incarnation of Eternal Champion.

BeatriceElysia:
So I just finished Quest for Infamy. Once again thank you for gifting it to me, as I ended up enjoying it greatly (as long as I manage to ignore its bugs). Fell into the trap of looking at a walkthrough a bit in Act II, partly related to once of those bugs, but otherwise I was happily surprised by its difficulty level (challenging, but solvable without having to brute force all possible actions) as well as by the many possible solutions for most of the puzzles / quests.

So I can confirm now that this indeed works, and is direly necessary. Besides the showstopping bug at the end of Act I, I had to use it a second time early on in act II, where on Linux I couldn't activate any of the exits on a one-screen maze, but in the Windows VM version, I had no trouble whatsoever with it. >.<
