Looking for a decent replacement for my Xbox 360 controller that broke for PC gaming. Would really like something that actually has a good directional pad for fighting games and others as it seems all of the ones made for Xbox 360 have that awful directional pad design. Would also like something that has better build quality if possible.

Any suggestions?

There is always Logitech F310 (or the F710 wireless variant) which is one of the few controllers that can alternate between XInput/Dinput mode with a handy switch. If you aren't particularly impressed with its design, you could always buy a PS3/PS4 controller and look for a guide to connect it to the PC (like [url=http://www.digitaltrends.com/gaming/how-to-connect-a-ps4-controller-to-pc/]two).

How's the d-pad on fighting games? Is it at least a step up from the 360's d-pad?

The Xbox One-controller has a pretty good D-pad, though unless I play a game that heavily relies on using the D-pad, i prefer to use the Xbox 360-controller for PC-gaming. I like both, but the build quality feels better in the 360-controller, as the Xbone-controller tends to "creak" slightly. The new Xbox One Elite-controller also has several different D-pads that you can change, and the build quality is reported to be very good. It's very expensive though.

I've only played Mortal Kombat Komplete with it (and I'm not very good either...) but I find it much more precise than the 360 pad. I can't seem to hit the diagonals with the 360 pad whereas I can most of the time with the F710. I think the times that I can't is more likely my ineptitude than the pad's fault but you may want to ask someone who's better at fighting games than me for a definitive answer to that.

How long have you had it? The reason I ask is because I see quite a bit of reviews that say theirs stopped working after about a year.

I've had it for 7 months...oh no, I hope it doesn't die soon! I think a few other people I've seen posting on here have had one much longer though - hopefully they'll comment soon.

I would recommend getting either Xbox 360 or Xbox Controller for your PC, but if you are going to play 2d platforming games, then i would recommend Logitech Gamepad F310 and it does work with games that either require the X360 or Xbox One controller.

I'm looking for something that's not Xbox as i'm tired of their refusal to fix their d-pad. The latest wired 360 controller that broke was somehow causing BSOD crashes on my PC trying to stay connected.

I'll likely give that Logitech a shot.

The Logitech F710 is what I recommend, though I haven't personally used it. I have the (sadly discontinued) F510, and I love it. The only difference I know of aside from the color is that the F710 is wireless.

Logitech F310 is cheap and good, also the new xbone controller suppose to work on pc too

The F310 lasted me through good times, but as it started to wear out, I switched to the Steelseries 3GC controller.

Should Valve iron out the kinks and remove the client requirement from the Steam Controller, my eyes are set on it.

D-pads generally suck.
Have you considered an arcadecontroller?
Most have excellent buildquality as well.
