My standard recommendation for kids, Viva Pinata.

And you can't really go wrong with the Sims.

If you get a 3DS, Pokemon would be a must.

I'd be careful with the 3DS, depending on the age of the children; Nintendo themselves avise against using the 3D feature if they are under 6 years old.

I wouldn't exactly go and suggest a game that's gotten a T rating since it first hit shelves. (Nor would I want to support EA.)
