Wow! with the melodrama and everything.

I don't like gog galaxy...it's an optional client, so don't use it.

You'd be better off making your point clearly to gog directly then melodramatic vague posts on gogs internet forum. Some gog users are rather extreme in regards to change, the forum is a good example of this. Yes some games do have a problem with drm integration in regards to multiplayer, you'd be better off directing those issues to the makers of the games.

I think gog would be best to focus on re-designing their website. Making games more compatible and getting more games on gog but hey I don't work there. (I'd like that more then another sales.) Oh and less shitty marketing campaigns.

Awww come on...

It's literally two clicks.

By the way, the old GOG Downloader does this too (possibly so that you can't accidentally close it while it is downloading a game).

lostanddamned: it was a nice time.
i just set up my new system, installed galaxy as on my old computer.
just to find out the option that when you close galaxy, the program actually closes. now you need to close it again in the system tray. i knew there was an option to decide what galaxy does when you clock the X in the upper right corner. that is gone.
i know skype does that and i think EA origin did that. other than being anti customer data hugging d...heads, there is no reason for that.

it was a nive run while you still were the good guys, dear gog/cd project team. i hope this doesn't also foreshadow product choices in cyberpunk 2077 and doesn't go (down) like bethesda with fallout 76

farewell

tastymonkey: This seems sort of petty. Why not avoid using Galaxy if it does not do what you want? You can be without it.
Yeah, i won't stop using the shop or games, just the galaxy client. the games still run without galaxy right? i got quite used to it

galaxy had the option in former versions where you could select what it does whe you close it: minimize to tray or close the program. so it got removed. there was nothing to ad or implement. that*s what makes it fishy

Oddeus: My new TV has no power switch. It just goes into standby, but never powers down completely. I don´t like that.

Lucumo: Damn, that's a pretty awful TV.
I had a sony 4k tv years that did that...it was odd.

tastymonkey: When people fuss about galaxy being required to get some games to work multiplayer on the Internet I do not recall hearing a ton of people crying a river for the fact that Gamespy was required to make multiplayer for Quake 1 work easy on the Internet back in the late 90s.
People don't cry a river because Gamespy was and is not required for multiplayer in Quake 1.

They also probably don't cry a river because they mostly weren't playing internet multiplayer games much in the 90s. And Quake 1's netcode is crappy anyway.

MaceyNeil: we get games with username lockout for LAN
What does this mean?

Well, bye person I never heard of or saw participating in the community, whose total posts number in the range of single digits.

Seriously, of all the petty reasons, this is the one you choose to ragequit over?

Should I ragequit the SNES because there are two steps to replacing a game?
avatar
MaceyNeil: mine has this funny dongle on the back that controls that sort of behaviour and that's attached to a wireless switch; job done.

As to the original post I don't blame him GOG have not stuck to their guns; we get games with username lockout for LAN on titles that still allow it, but most cut multiplayer out all together though gog will still sell the 'half product'.
Galaxy is even becoming more steam like and even less optional.
So while GOG may still be the place for DRM Free indie single player games; it's getting nowhere on the DRM free multiplayer front.
The real problem with this is that DRM'd multiplayer these days largely locks out the user base from freely modifying because developers want steam like ladders and DLC.
LAN is where gaming shone with games like red alert that you just essentially painted your own map and it worked (in their editor).
At the end of the day though customers who keep playing and enjoying games aren't buying the new ones rolling out or feeling the need for new DLC content.

Seriously it makes no sense to buy into GOG's DRM mantra when it has no industry leverage and if people stopped holding out on these bandaid platforms maybe we'd get some political action on steams monopoly situation.
Steam isn't even a monopoly in the US. There is Origin (in the US), Epic Games (in the US) and World wide, there's UPlay, and GOG, all of which offer COMPETING services to Steam. Steam's market share isn't so dominant as to enact anti-trust law, at least in the US. Is it an oligopoly? Eh, maybe not so bad as the oil/energy, cable TV/ISP, or pharma industries, but a little? Perhaps. Does it suck for consumers? Absolutely yes. But the gaming bubble is bursting for EA and Activision right now. They've experienced exponential growth over the last decade and have peaked it seems. Now selling over a half a billion dollars worth of game in 3 days is not enough and investors, seeing this plateauing have started to pull out. So we will see what happens when the gaming market crashes, and who rises up out of the ashes.
So you are off to another Galaxy.Good luck ;).Cheers
Ooooor click tray to exit from get-go, or big round button on top left corner and then Exit. But thanks for the drama!

Just exit using the menu or by right click in the tray. I think it's a failsafe that people don't accidentally quit when they just want to minimize the app.

Thaaaat makes more sense. And yes, you can play your games without Galaxy. Or make an extra click or two to close Galaxy completely, so it's still available to you for multiplayer and incremental patch updates.

Might want to contact a blue and see if they can change the thread title, then. "Good bye gog" and "Good bye Galaxy" are two very different things.

Look, I understand you didn't get want you wanted on Christmas, but please don't take it out on GOG/Galaxy.

This is just sad to see that instead of asking you just rage-quit Galaxy AND GOG in general like a millennial (at least that's what it sounds like). Have some self-respect.
