tfishell: Do GOG have a way to gift Wallet funds? If not, is there a logical/strong reason to not allow doing so?
avatar
SultanOfSuave: I shan't comment on the reasoning behind not allowing it, but I'll at least scratch the itch and say that no, you cannot gift wallet funds, either by purchasing for another user (the last point) or by transferring them to another user (under 'What are the rules of using GOG Wallet?', points 4 and 6; and under 'What currency is available for GOG wallet', paragraph two). But I can gift you a game with my own wallet funds, which is not exactly the same.
Thanks for the info.

Yeah it's not the same. You should be able to gift funds as a gift if you want to let that person choose their own game(s).

Mori_Yuki: [...]The only thing customers would have to know, if GOG introduces gift/voucher cards as an option, is: If they are purchasing more than one gift-card at a time, with a value of 50 Euros (or equivalent in foreign currencies) per card each, not to attempt to use them all in one go, but only one card to add 50 Euros. I am not sure, how much time must pass, before the next card/voucher can be redeemed, this would be something you'd have to look up yourself. Otherwise, if a customer tries to redeem 2 cards, at a value of 100 Euros total, they'd have to have means to provide proof of identity, which is on the shop or processor to provide to be able to use the cards/codes anywhere on the Internet. [...]
Just as one data point: With Paysafecard, there apparently is a five-minute delay on the vendor level between purchases exceeding 50€, at least in my country. Meaning: If someone in front of you buys 100€ via Paysafe, and you want to do the same immediately after, you will have to wait for the vendor system to unlock that option again. I know this because it's happened to me recently.

On the flip side: Once you do have that 100€ Paysafecard, you can split it into two purchases of 2x50€ on GOG without proof of identity, and without any delay. If you want to make it a single 100€ purchase, you will have to register an account with Paysafecard, including proof of identity.

Theoretically you could split the amount, at least on the retail level in being physically present in a store. Online you may have to unlock the amount total on a card, and no more than one say one with 50 one with 20. If codes can be stacked, payments would only be possible once you sign in to the card issuer's website. This is what happened to me, when I was trying to use two gift cards (for Steam), and when the money-laundering and anti-terrorism laws were still relatively new. I would have had to sign-up for an account, a UK provider, send them proof otherwise they would not allow me to redeem and purchase anything. I did not, because I am not sending a company proof of my identity, obligation on their end or no, not to be considered a criminal and allowing me to consume what I paid for. I only became aware of the laws after the fact and tried to get my money back, but no chance. This is how I learned about the rules, regulations and-then, new laws in addition.

Rarune: I LOVE GOG!!! for one thing but sadly IT NEEDS MORE OPTIONS!

1 i have only 1 card and the site says this token is invalid yet it still works on ebay.... ok...

2 i can no longer put any money on GOG until this is resolved but you see my point! i tried using the same credit card it still says invalid ><

3 YOU NEED TO HAVE GOG CARDS where if i buy a card it has a code on it i rip open the thing from the mail POW 100$ i drop in code and i can just avoid the crap in America where my bank HATES being used on GOG for some reason. charge 110$ for the 100$ card AND I WOULD PAY THAT!!!! GLADLY!!! wish thease cards were in walmart id buy 1 every month...

4 GOG digital codes on ebay where you guys sell codes that have set amounts on ebay or other places! the code generates it and sent no muss no fuss just clean and efficient.

5 may be have your own GOG credit card and they would get it as for example San Antonio loans that I am currently using! i wouldn't mind doing that if you could figure a way...

6 i know there are others who WANT the same thing and ps1 twisted metal and brave fencer Musashi but i would just be happy if there was ANOTHER way to add money to gog! PLEASE ADD GOG CARDS OR SOMTHING!!!
I agree with that for 100000%
