I'm very disapointed about it.
GOG now start selling region locked game.
I don't know about other countries, but at least Dying Light can't buy from Japan. Even I can't see that store page.
I had saw GOG never do region lock. They change policy? Only fair price promised?

P.S. I also think some games from Japan not include Japanese isn't fair. (Of couse that original game include Japanese)

It's not the first game that is regionally locked (the first in Japan though). The normal version of Witcher 2 was locked in Australia (they got a censored version instead). Commandos 1-3, The Wolfenstein games and Quake 2 and 3 are locked in Germany. Hotline Miami 2 is locked in Australia, Dying Light is locked in Germany and Japan.

But yes, I'm disappointed too. By now GOG gave up all their former principles. Only DRM-free is left.
Honest question, did they ever promise they wouldn't allow region lock on their store?

I'm pretty sure they did not.

Also they still continue to sell games globally which are region locked in other stores which suggests that they actually only give in where the legal pressure is too big rather than covering their asses in advance the way it works on Steam. Plus GOG only makes purchasing the games a hassle, not activating, installing or playing them. People should be grateful for that. I know that I am after all the shit I've gone through with Steam while I lived in Germany.

And again, if they refuse the region lock, the distributor shits and pulls the game entirely so no one can get it.

Yep, at least we have the option to trade/gift games, it´s not that bad. Have to say I too am disappointed, but hey if you want to get the game you still can get it.

Probably because Dying Light isn't supposed to be released before 21 April in Japan:

Yes I seen this, I have a feeling it's due to the release date thing but lets hope it's just that or that company loses sales due to this.
I agree that it's bad, but.. without a lock, if it were for Germany + a few countries, we wouldn't have various games worldwide here..

Well, the game is regionally-locked on the Japanese Steam as well and the article does mention an April 21 release for it, so I guess it is that. Think of it as a similar scenario to No Man's Sky which won't be released in all territories at the same time.

It happens on most if not every site, Gamersgate has a few aswell, well if i cant buy that because of a region lock, then so be it, there is nothing we can do about it i guess.
See it like all the decisions our governments make , 90% of the time we dont agree with these, but have to put up with them, thats life i guess. Nothing we can change about that.

Do note that regional locking for Germany didn't exist on GOG before they started the German-language version of the site.

And since they don't yet have a Japanese-language version of the site, I'll assume that Grargar is correct in that it's due to the fact that the game will be released in Japan tomorrow.

yes they do ,but its kinda sad those region locks, maybe it makes sense, but still sad they use region locks.
As far as i can see, i can still buy most of these games, so come live in holland, were small and it rains every day, we have lots of unemployed, and more garbage going on right now, but we still can buy most of all the games sofar.

okay :D so if they would add a dutch forum for the dutch and belgium speaking, we might get region locks aswell ?
Well lets try it then, and let GoG make a dutch forum, if nothing happens, you can all stil migrate to Holland, come in and join the party...

If there are any games on GOG that actually are banned (or something similar to the German "index", I guess) in the Netherlands, then yes, they likely would block games from purchase through Dutch ip-adresses due to the fact that they can then be considered to specifically target Dutch customers.

Then again, Dutch likely isn't a big enough language that adding that language would be worth the cost (unless you count Afrikaans as a dialect, and even then it's quite unlikely).
