I've played games since '76 and computer games since the early 80's, and while I enjoy digital delivery of games, I miss the old days of physical boxes with game art, manuals, and posters. Having hundreds of games and "goodies" on hard drives isn't nearly as exciting as having physical goods, so what am I suggesting?
A few years ago Techland released Call of Juarez Gunslinger (a great shooter BTW) and made available multiple version of "poster art" for download. One of those now sits framed over my desk. So...
Would GOG be able to make artwork available upon purchase?
I know GOG often offers "goodies" -- publisher / developer additions -- but I'm asking whether GOG could offer their own printable "box art" or printable "posters," GOG specific? Maybe even having the GOG logo on them?
Certainly this would entail commissioning artwork for some titles and cost some money (although as an artist I know there are many who would jump at the chance. heck, make contests out of it), and not every game could or should have this "treatment," but it would help to make many GOG purchases more specific to the GOG platform.
In my case, I burn many games to CD and put them in cases. I'd love to have some posters and box art I could print and make my own "physical release" that looks official to GOG. Yes, this can be done currently with Gimp and some pulling from the internet, but the key to what I'm suggesting is making it GOG official to foster branding and possibly -- depending how it is done -- to foster more community.
